Memories of when we got relegated in a friendly

Its my only regret in this war. Its pitted me against good people. Well, usually good people.
I'm kinda pleased that I came through your vaulting exercise in tact. Probably because I'm not prone to knee jerk reactions, realised it was still preseason and one with a number of summer comps plus off field issues, and 4 weeks of the transfer window left. No need to panic basically.

But you can't argue that it was a lacklustre performance that showed no signs of the dynamic fast counter attacking football that was to be delivered from the second half of the Southampton game onward.

My fear was that it was similar to the dross served up so often under Carlo the previous season. I doubted our new manager could change that, but so far I'm happy to concede I got it wrong.

I must admit it's very weird having somebody you dislike so much as a person deliver football that's a joy to watch, but I guess I'll get used to it in time.

That says it all. Last year about this same time we were all getting carried away about our record. The early signs are excellent at the moment but I want to see more before I give Benitez a passing grade.
I mean last year was great fun when we had 6 songs in the top 10 , but with the benefit of hindsight it was bit like shooting your load before even switching on the computer.

There's no reason why we can't just enjoy the football and the results without going overboard again. Next week will be a test when we come up against the first team to park the bus.
