How do you mean?

Yeah what do you mean the same credibility?

Simple really. Are 40 goals in the Championship as good a feat as 40 goals in the Premiership?

Now the scale obviously isnt as big, but for me... the Premiership provides much more stern opposition. Not to mention the more congested fixture lists around Christmas and the Champions League meaning more fatigue for Ronaldo.

Interesting reasoning Dan. I think the top 4 in England are stronger than the top 4 in Spain, Champions League records support that view without doubt, but if you look at the UEFA records of the two leagues it suggests that La Liga has better depth than the Premier League (3wins to 1 for La Liga since 1991 when finals were played over 1 leg rather than 2 and the last PL winner before that was Ipswich in 1981!).

Add in that La Liga has less teams so Messi will play less games and him achieving 40 goals would probably be an even greater achievement.

May be a minor thing, but 6 of the last 8 world player of the year winners came from La Liga, the only two that didn't being Kaka and Ronaldo. Looking at it, Ronaldo has been the only winner playing in the PL in the last 25 years or so.

Of course some of that may be politics but I don't think you can discount La Liga as a competition, especially if Barca go on to lift the Champions League trophy.

I think it has more depth than the PL but that the top 4 here are better than the top 4 there. It's obviously hard to make direct comparisons but if you look at Champions League (top 4) and UEFA Cup (depth) then it tends to support that view.

Aye, hard to make direct comparisions but comparing Champions League success would be a fair reflection?

Dont make me post the last 16 for the past 5/6 years and count them all up (y)

The more depth argument doesnt wash with me either. I would say its more a case of the bigger sides in La Liga lacking consistency.

Dont make me talk about the more likely failure of players who do very well in La Liga but are awful here. Quick examples, Morientes and Diego Forlan.

For me, the Prem wipes the floor with La Liga. Liverpool will show you that when they literally sweep aside Real Madrid.
