Messi on for Ronaldo'esq season?

Wasn't really a difficult prediction to make after the way Real played in the first leg.

Especially when it's Liverpool's season on the line, with Torres and Gerrard back.

I made the prediction well before the first leg. (14th January) I also comfortably said "See" when it was 1-0. I also comfortably said on here before the game that Liverpool will win comfortably.

I agree though, it wasn't really a difficult prediction to know that Liverpool would "literally sweep aside Real Madrid", I actually had a £1 (well, £1.02p that was left in my account) on 4-0.

La Liga is officially the 4th best league in the World, the Premiership is the best. Last night, Liverpool demonstrated that. It should have been about 6 or 7-0. In terms of performances against Liverpool, I would say Madrid were equal to only Newcastle this season.

Oh, and "especially when it's Liverpool's season on the line" - You seem to forget there was another team playing, who had as much, if not more to play for.

Real have been average for most of the season to be honest, I expected Liverpool to give them a beating. They've got no pace bar Robben and Higuain and to be fair to Liverpool they are a fantastic Champions League team.

They're 2nd, just 6 points behind Barcelona. They have only lost 1 out of 14 at home in their league, drawing 2 and winning 11 (How many attempts did Liverpool need to beat them at the Bernabeu?)

But yeah, they have been average. But you dont need to be on fire to beat the likes of 9th place Valladolid,10th Almeria, 13th Sporting Gijon etc

Lower teams here will lack quality, but they'll always press teams and hard to break down. I've watched Real Madrid play the likes of Getafe and it being literally a stroll. Being stood off to a ridiculous extent - the likes of Bolton and Stoke dont do the same to our bigger sides.

What are you on, do you even watch football? Madrid are at least in their title race, Liverpool have nothing but the UCL to fight for.

Real Madrid 6 points from 1st
Liverpool 7 points from 1st

Yeah mate. Massive difference. If Liverpool win their next game against Utd, its 4 points.

To say Real Madrid rolled over for Liverpool because they are involved in a title race is laughable.

the way Premiership teams swept aside all comers last season should be an indication of how strong the premiership is. Real Madrid would not qualify for the Champions league in the premiership and it would be a big ask to get a UEFA cup spot given the performances they gave in the 2 legs against Liverpool.

I was surprised by the capitulation by Madrid as they have been in good form recently. You have to hand it to Liverpool though, in the Champions League they have really found a formula for winning.

Yeah it is a massive difference you pleb, two results compared to three away from winning the title.

Never mind that Liverpool have to beat Manchester bloody United at Old Trafford.

Geez, anyone can run a footy forum these days.

I don't think any other player in the world could have scored Messi's goal last night. Kinda sums him up for me.

Yeah he's defo unique. It's exciting that we have years and years of him to come, as you wouldn't expect he'd go off the rails like Ronaldinho did.

My main concern with him would be whether the physical punishment he gets will catch up with him eventually. He's not as physically strong as Ronaldo, or even Maradonna, so I wonder how long he can take the kicks before his body breaks.

If he stays in La Liga, I wouldn't be too concerned.
