Messi on for Ronaldo'esq season?

I believe he's up to 34 goals this season now having grabbed 2 more in the demolition of Bayern tonight. Ronaldo was fantastic last season but Messi is on another level again. If this kid carries on like this he's going to become one of the finest players to ever play the game. He's a phenomenom.

Am I right in thinking that Messi doesn't take penalties for Barca too?

I've been saying for a long time about how good this guy is. Ronaldo is not even capable of doing what this guy can do. At his best he is completely unplayable and unstoppable.
I cant wait for the world cup to come round, so we can see him show his skills against the best in the world. Cause after it's over, they will be hailing him as possibly the best EVER.

Eto'o generally takes the penalties but they share them round a bit with the likes of Iniesta, xavi and sometimes Messi taking the odd one.

Quite. I think Ronaldo got around 10 goals from penalties last season.

Similarly Cahill has a better record than both Gerrard and Lampard when penalties are taken out of the equation.

He's now on to 36 goals for the season (from 37 starts), in comparison to Ronaldo's 42 from last season. If he scores a goal per game for the remainder of the season he'll have scored 43 for the year. Not quite sure how the Barca website works out assists but he's registered there as having 86  A truely remarkable player who I think will be the defining player of our generation.

Its an exceptional stat isnt it mate, have a feeling (and a tenner) that Chelsea will knock them out of the CL though.

It wouldn't surprise me, but for the love of football I hope they don't.

What do you mean, love of football you hope Chelsea get beat?

For the love of Everton, I want Chelsea through. (Champions League Final 3 days before FA Cup Final...)

Even besides that, I would like an all English final to spectaculary prove English dominance yet again and to get right up Platinis nose.

I think Barca have been the best team in Europe this season. Chelsea clearly havn't, as witnessed by their showing in the PL, so I hope they don't win the title.

As for us, we can beat Chelsea regardless of whether they have a match a few days before the final.

I'm conflicted. By the exact points that both Danny and Bruce have brought up.

I want Chelsea to go through in that I think it gives us a much better chance at winning the FA Cup, but at the same time my footballing heart bleeds the Red and Blue of Barca atm. A CL win for them is a win for the beautiful game.

And it'll [Poor language removed] the Sky 4, which is always nice.

As re; Messi/Ronaldo . Messi on one leg . Every day of the week for me . If he was 6ft and got headers , ...well , hed be very , very good indeed . Plus , aesthetically , hes the Guvnor .

As for Chelski , Dan is spot on . We want them as pre-occupied as possible pre - May 30 . Personally , Id sack the peno's ( in the event of the , very likely indeed , draw . ), and make the fukas replay . THAT'S how much I want them pre-occupied .

Thought it would be interesting to bump this now that they are both in the same league.

My point was that Messis goalscoring exploits in La Liga couldn't be justifiably compared with Ronaldos in the Prem. Now that they are in the same league, we can get a better idea on how the two compare - certainly goalscoring wise.

I just heard Ronaldo has scored 11 Goals in 9 Appearences so far. Not a bad start at all. We'll have to keep an eye on goals per game ratio and see who comes out on top.

10 in 7 vs 5 in 5 for Messi and Ronaldo this year in La Liga. Impressive stats from both players. Real are top of the league thus far, one point ahead of Barca. Should be a good battle between the two. Gran Classico next Sunday at the Camp Nou. Should be a belter :)

Interestingly, three of the top four scorers in La Liga are Barca players.
