Could easily be swayed by the MLS you know?

If they’re willing to give him the “Beckham” treatment and give him a chance to buy his own franchise.

Hes Said he wants MLS, and what a way to expand his portfolio.

NYCFC sign Messi, loan him to Man City. Wages getting paid by the same people so makes no difference, just keeps a chunk of them off City's books.

This would obviously be incredibly transparent and dodgy but I'm not sure if it would actually be illegal.

Blessing in disguise for Barcelona. That five year contract was bonkers, especially how it was rumoured he'd only actually play two years of it.

He was - and is - a sensational player, but Barcelona need the transition away from him urgently and that'll now be easier with that one financial millstone not around their neck.

As for his next club? If City go for Kane, Messi is obviously impossible, if he isn't already impossible. You have to guess PSG, but I think Liverpool are an outside bet.

Not many things in football will bring me more joy than seeing Barcelona crash and burn
Barcelona needed to move players out to renew Messi’s deal and they have not been able to find the solution. The club, whose total debt is about €1,173m, are constrained by the league’s salary cap.”

How are they allowed in Europe, that is obscene.

I was nodding away until the very end, and I'm not sure if you're being serious but wildly wrong or putting a huge reel out.

Is it not what happened, albeit on a smaller scale, with Frank Lampard? Went to NYC, and went to City for a little bit on loan?

Messi to the MLS makes logical sense to me, whilst his stock is guaranteed to be high, get your Beckham deal, and avoid ever playing Barça.

Semi-serious. They're pretending they can't spend but they haven't spent daft money in terms of net spend over the last two years and have been very successful over that time period. They also have a few players they can ship out too like Shaqiri.

I think they could afford him just about, when you take in the commercial/reputational benefits of the move too.

But mostly I'm just thinking out loud about clubs beyond PSG/City that could possibly do it. In reality the list ends with those two, Liverpool a distant third.

Liverpool's owners would never be willing to outlay the money required to bring Messi in when you consider his astronomical wages and likely signing on fee.

For all his ability and world reach in terms of advertisements, commercially it simply wouldn't follow their prudent model based on even a % of his wages.

I don't think even City are going to be able to do it now they've paid out £100m for Grealish and probably still need a true forward, which points to Kane.

The PL spending rules and FFP would have them (City) bent over before they know, so there's no way the RS would take that kind of risk.

For me, it's either PSG, he accepts a massive wage reduction to stay at Barca or there's a curve ball in terms of the MLS. It wreaks of one part of a wider plan.

Wouldn’t be suprised if Chelsea pull out of signing lukaku to fund the Messi deal

Chelsea seems logical

London club
Billionaire owner
Current champions league winners
Has always been a lucrative move for previous big names like ballack, makalele, beletti, schevchenko, crespo, eto’o, veron, geremi, pizzaro, deco, Torres, fabregas, Costa, Cole, luiz, silva etc..
