Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Just back from getting my hair cut. Didn't quite turn out as I expected.

I discovered the barber I normally go to has closed down, so I had to go to the other one in town. It's run by a lady from Warrington and I've been there before. Cal used to go there too because they also do lady's dry cuts, and she had a cut just before the cruise.

Turns out the lady recognised me (probably when I opened my gob and she realised I was a scouser) and proceeded to ask me how the cruise went. Well I wasn't expecting that and just broke down. 5 minutes later I was fine and was telling her all about what happened. but it's those few words, "she died " or "she's passed away" that I just can't seem to get out of my mouth.

Anyway I'm ok now. I have my haircut that will do me for a couple of months and is one less thing to worry about. ;)

Just going to clear up some of the leaves from the back before it get's dark.
Oh Fred, breaking down is going to be part of the grieving process that you are still going through. Cal left not too long ago so your heart still is hurting and reliving the cruise trip is a painful experience, I’m sorry you had to encounter this today.

I’m also sorry about your haircut not turning as expected, but I would encourage you to look at the positive aspect of it. That at least you still have hair that can be cut and be ruined ;)

Sending hug and kisses your way too. Xoxo

Put my house on the market today. Been here nearly 40 years. Daughter has found a house for sale in Flackwell Heath only a few hundred yards from her front door. It's about 10 miles from where we live now. We had a look at the house a few days ago and we both like it. Daughter is having to get more involved with looking after her indoors and it is quite an onerous drive with the traffic, even though it's only 10 miles each way. Never thought I would be moving again!
Hope all is well Messy, don't stay away too long.

Congrats @Methuselah that’s great news, both finding a house that you like and one that’s next to your daughter. Just in time for the holidays! May your house sell quickly and at a good price.

So sad and sorry to read your post Fred.

I have not been in your situation but my wife twice had open heart surgery when I was told frankly that there was a possibility of losing her ( thank God that didn't happen and that she is fit and well ) and my mind went to all sorts of dark places just at the thought that she might not be there.

I can only hope that you get through every day and take some comfort from knowing that you are in a community of friends.

Take care mate.

Bound to be a wrench leaving a home after 40 years but to find a house you both like and so close to your daughter is fortunate indeed. Here’s hoping everything goes through smoothly.

So sorry to read of your experience at the hairdresser. Often it’s the chance remark which can open the wound and catch us off guard. The words “she’s passed away” are so final and difficult to come to terms with, be kind to yourself and take comfort that you shared your life with a wonderful lady. Sorry if I sound “preachy” my words are well meant though. Hope you managed to clear the leaves!

Oh Fred, that's so sad. Completely normal reaction though. As others have said sometimes it's just a passing comment that catches you off guard and opens the floodgates. Your grief is still new and raw. We're all here for you. Hugs x

Good evening @messymascot Good to hear from you yesterday. Hope you are able to get plenty of rest.

Good evening everybody else. Hope you've all had a good day. @Sassy Colombian I made pumpkin pie once from the innards of the pumpkins the kids had carved for Hallowe'en. It was horrible. Seriously nasty. However I think that was more to do with my rubbish baking skills and not the pumpkins!

Ange, it may have not been you. I actually read that using fresh pumpkin doesn't turned out very well for pumpkin pie because it is too chunky and the texture is just no right, so it is better to use only for savory dishes. Below is the recipe that I'm going to be using and it suggests using can pumpkin, or I believe you call it in a tin. It also suggests adding pepper as a spice. I’m going to use summerisle pastry recipe though, as I know he is very good at baking. I’ll let you know how it turns out. I did purchase a pecan pie as a dessert back up, just in case mine is a disaster lol

Flackwell Heath is a decent area, only a small place but everything you'd need there and only just down the hill to the big Tesco in Loudwater.

My other half's uncle has lived there for a few years now and I almost moved there 4 years ago, there's a walking football team at Flackwell college up the road as well if you fancied lacing up your boots.

You should have tagged Rondon into this @Bungle.

I'll see if I can find any canned pumpkin and maybe have another go! Thanks
