Well I think the politicians have sorted that one out for us ,it is the country you were born in -isn't it ?I'm interested in the definition of Irish - or any other nationality. Does it mean country of birth or does it mean ethnicity. For example my Dad was the only one of his siblings who was born in England after his parents moved to Liverpool from Cork. Does that make him English when he had zero English heritage or ancestry. Also we lived in Nigeria for a couple of years when I was aged 4-6. My Mum found out that she was pregnant with my youngest brother while we were there. She came back to Liverpool to have him. However had he been born in Nigeria would that have made him Nigerian?
A few months ago I kept reading these reviews that said something like “ The third episode of a series “ The Last of Us” was the most stunning thing people had seen on Tv for a long time”. So I watched it . SPOILER ALERT. It really was a stunning episode, particularly the ending and last words from Bill whose partner Frank is about to die “ This isn’t the tragic suicide at the end of a play . I’m old . I’m satisfied . And you were my purpose” Then they go off to die in each others arms.
When Mrs blueloon came home I tried to explain the episode to her but I was overcome with emotion, not as she first thought about the poignancy of two gay men, but the realisation of how much I felt those words applied to me and us: “ I’m old, I’m satisfied , you were my purpose” are lovely words of contentment, but I reflect on them differently now. Last week my friend if 40 odd years stayed with us , sadly his wife of 50 years died 3 years ago, and for 18 months he was lost but friends who live close to him snapped him out of it and he found purpose again. Everybody’s different , and we each chose our own path, but purpose can remain in our lives. Apologies for the overlong reply Pete.

What about someone born in an airplane ?
My musical tastes are pretty eclectic but I like all folk music tbh, whether it be traditional, Gaelic or the sea shanties that are so common place down here. I saw Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention at some folk festival in the 80s and they're 2 of the best live bands I've ever seen. Fisherman's Friends 1 & 2 are 2 of my fave feel good movies too.Morning all, been properly catching up on the conversations I’ve missed over the weekend during my Prosecco induced haze/recovery. I’ve never really felt Irish music tbh and put it down to my lack of heritage in that part of the world, but I’m certainly going to check out the recommendations on Spotify when I’ve got a minute.
Today is rescue dog walking and thanks to the change in weather, laundry and gardener’s assistant this afternoon.
have a great day everyone
I've given this post a lot of thought BL. I too watched and was moved by that episode. But at the time I wasn't sure how much of it applied to everyday life given that it was set in an imaginary dystopian world in which both parties had absolutely nobody but themselves to consider. But thinking about it now, I think it was relevant to me personally. For years Cal and I had lived in a sort of bubble and we did everything together. Yes I have family and friends, and if I were to die tomorrow I'm sure they would be saddened and would miss me, at least for a while anyway. But, other than that, in reality my passing would not change any of their lives in the slightest. So I'm very conscious of the fact that, with nobody else to consider, I could easily have slipped into the mindset that life without Cal wasn't worth living. As it happens, I don't think such thoughts even entered my head. For the first couple of weeks I think I was still in shock, but then practical matters kicked in as I had to make all the arrangements for Cal, which were complex to say the least for various reasons. During that time I got to know Karl a lot better and I thought if he could handle everything life has thrown at him, then I'm sure I could do the same. I think you called it purpose when referring to your friend, and perhaps that's what it is. All I know is that I determined that I would try and enjoy my life as much as I can without Cal being in it. And each morning i still wake up with that mindset. Except when I have one of my nightmare hangovers of course.A few months ago I kept reading these reviews that said something like “ The third episode of a series “ The Last of Us” was the most stunning thing people had seen on Tv for a long time”. Lucky by all accounts. Best player suspended too.England through….
Yeah they've only released a couple of singles to date AT. They only have about 10 songs in their repertoire but neither of those singles get close to my favourite top 5 by them in fairness.M
Had a look through Spotify and they only seem to have a couple of songs, one of which is rather explicit .
I did enjoy though.
