Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

It rained all day here. My gorgeous dogs looked at me in a forlorn way after the briefest of walks due to the weather.

Here's hoping tomorrow is a good day for everyone especially you Messy.

Seeing Barca losing to Bayern and going out at the group stages of the CL for the 1st time in 17 years is a salutary lesson to Everton.....that's what happens when you spend silly money on crap players and have Koeman in charge!

Sleep well everyone.

I was reminded of an embarrassing story from my youth today. Might be a bit long, so bear with me. Went to see Aliens at the cinema around 1986/87. Me and my girlfriend at the time were running a bit late, so we were rushing down the street in pouring rain under an umbrella. It was dark, but we saw a huge Aliens promo poster in a window and assumed we'd arrived at the cinema, so we rushed in out of the rain, not knowing we'd actually entered a bingo hall.

The place was very grand looking for a bingo hall, and the foyer looked just like you'd expect a cinema to look, although we were in a bit of a rush, as we didn't want to miss the start of the film, so we might not have been paying too much attention.

We went over to the fella at the ticket desk and I said, "Two Aliens, please" and he gave me a very strange look because he naturally thought I proclaimed that we were two aliens wanting to play bingo. I remember thinking, "What's his problem? Surly get!" He then asked, "Are you members?" Me and my girlfriend looked at each other with a puzzled frown and muttered, "Members?" in unison. We then quickly filled out a membership card with our names and addresses on, paid our money and headed off to see the film, or so we thought.

We opened these large double doors, which we assumed were the entrance to the cinema screen, but they opened onto a massive bingo hall full of people playing bingo. We looked at each other again and our intial "Whaaaaaat?" reaction was replaced by fits of giggles. We then had a little discussion on whether to make a swift exit or ask for a refund. Despite the embarrassment, we decided on the latter.

When we approached the fella on the ticket desk again, I was briefly tempted to milk it a bit by saying, "We're alien beings from another planet, but don't worry we come in peace, yeah. We're only here for the bingo," but decided against it because I thought my girlfriend might be mortified. We explained what had happened, he had a good laugh, gave us our refund and directions to the cinema, which was round the corner.

We received our bingo membership cards in the post a few days later.
My Mum once went to.an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting instead of Weight Watchers. Same venue, different rooms. She barely drank so it wasn't a cover up! " I thought it was strange that they gave biscuits out at the start"

I hope tomorrow is a dryer day for you and your doggies, Jazzy. And for Mrs. M too, of course.

I can’t believe Barca is out of the CL during the group stages but they have been mismanaging that Club with their wasteful spending on players so at some point your luck is going to ran out when there is no talent to support your investment. I like Bayern so good for them. I still can’t believe Lewandowski wasn’t given the Ballon d’Or, he deserved it way more than Messi.

Morning all ,I hope Karl had a good night and that the medicine is doing it's job for him . I don't have it but just for @Sassy Colombian here is a little Finnish "accent" strangely there are no real dialects but local words in some areas ,basically everyone can understand each other .

I hope the weather is better for all in the UK today as from our news it looked quite severe .
Have a great day all .

Morning all.

Hope you had a restful sleep Messy and that today is a good day.

The transfer speculation seems to be picking up speed and given that Benitez has total control I suspect that we will see a fair bit of business.

The thought of Digne going out and Ramsey coming in smacks of short termism to me , but what do I know.

Has everyone done their Crimbo shopping?
I spent a very uncomfortable afternoon in town , just too many people and will finish off online , even though I hate online shopping.

Couldn't find the Strictly Annual anywhere and my 94 Yr old mum loves getting it every year.

It's like a return to childhood when you used to love to get the Beano / Dandy / Shoot annual.

Anyway big walk for the dogs today and then off to the gym.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning,

I've just about finished my shopping - need a couple of stocking fillers for my kids. Given their ages these will undoubtedly involve alcohol! I have bought my son an Everton desk calendar.
Amazon have got the Strictly annual. I hate giving money to that toe rag Jeff Bezos but sometimes needs must! You can also get a Strictly calendar from Calendar Club if your Mum would like that too.
My son told me that there were loads of rumours on social media before the Arsenal game that Digne was the source of Everton stories being leaked to The Athletic. I don't subscribe to The Athletic so haven't seen the stories. However I can guess they were not complimentary. That was supposed to be reason he was dropped. If the rumours are true then he will be out in January - he's clearly unhappy, he's been a shadow of the player he was last season. If he is so negative he could also be affecting everybody. I'm sure we've all worked with people whose mood affects the whole team, you're waiting for them to come in to see what kind of a mood they are in. If it's a bad one you know you are in for a difficult day. However I agree buying Ramsay is a short term fix.

My daughter is attending her first football match next week. She's bought her boyfriend tickets for Middlesbrough v Bournemouth as part of his Christmas present so they will be going to the Riverside.

good morning @messymascot How are you doing. I've just watched the last session of the Ashes (I'm off today) Oh dear - less said about that the better. If you missed it because you were sleeping, wise choice.

Good morning everybody @Barnfred 55 How's things with you? You're in my thoughts, especially with Christmas looming. It must be difficult for you. Sending hugs x

Lovely sunrise this morning over Durham. I genuinely hate this time of year though - when it never gets properly light and you start work in the dark and finish work in the dark. December 21st is equally my most favourite and least favourite day of the year. It will start getting lighter but it's soo dark. I couldn't live in Norway or Sweden where they have 6 months of darkness!

Visit to the hairdressers this morning for the obligatory Christmas styling. I'm thinking of having a colour change, something a bit lighter. It's always a traumatic experience , I have mad curly hair (for those of you of a certain vintage my school nickname was Crystal Tipps!) and I dread when a hairdresser invariably says "oh is it permed?" I squash the temptation to reply "Do you really think I would pay to have hair like this!"

I'm also going to wrap the presents I've bought so far. Have a lovely day all.

Thanks for the heads up re Strictly Anj , I will get on that later.

Hope your daughter enjoys her 1st match should be a good one but bet its cold at the Riverside.

Digne , yes been a bit of a drop off in his form , apparently he told the Athletic that Benitez told him to defend and not go forward. Think he might be off in January.

Morning Messy, Fred and everyone. Bit dull here but it looks though it may brighten up a bit. Christmas shopping mostly done most of it online which I don’t really like but things being what they are decided that I’d have to ditch my principles. My grandson has had the Strictly annual bought for him by our elderly neighbour every year, he’s 13 now and I thought he’d outgrown it but when asked whether he wanted it this year he said yes, maybe he just didn’t want to upset “Auntie” I don’t know, I don’t imagine his schoolmates will find out.lol. Have a good day all.

Good morning Messy, Fred and the gang, cold and crisp up here this morning, my eldest granddaughter passed her driving test yesterday, on the minus side it makes me feel old but on the plus side it's someone new on the list of people who can pick me up from the pub ?
I've done about 3/4 of my Christmas shopping, I think one last trip into Glasgow should do it.
Like you @anjelikaferrett @Barnfred 55 has also been in my thoughts with Christmas hurtling towards us, Fred it will be tough mate but you have been really strong and resilient and you seem to have a good support network around you, circumstances have morphed this thread into yours also and you know there’s a gang of us just a click away for a chat.
Hope you all have a good day, I have a day of boring domestic chores ahead of me?
