Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Honestly it was only by chance and good fortune (for me) that I happened to be there
What a memory ,to use an overused word -priceless .
As said by others so many of us have been so privileged to have never seen anything like the sadness and destruction that those people had ,I know you will never forget but I think I too might never forget that story .
I wonder if you will come to realise later how much that experience has impacted your life as you will never look at some things the same again.
We all have so much to learn and so much to be thankful for -take this thread for example .

Good morning all on this fine day here +2° in Hyvinkää.
I hope all slept well and have a great day today .thanks @Kurt. for making a very happy start to my day COYB. We went shopping yesterday and my missus was driven crazy by the wandering around the shops in what seemed like a pointless search to find nothing .On the bright side the GD ate some mushroom mixture that I was sure she turn her nose up at .Saty safe all COYB.
P.S. I watched the prematch and Dyche was on and on about the last two seasons and the way it was ,I feel obliged to mention that almost one of the last two has been under his tutilage ,nevertheless I think the wind is changing for us and he should be kept on ,if they would just gag him or a least limit the amount of times he says the same thing in one prematch .

Dyche is starting to worry me now. I do like him but can’t reasonably say that he has got the points on the board that this team is capable of. Lose tomorrow and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he is shown the door.

Evening guys, just wanted to share something I witnessed today for which I felt very humbled, emotional and privelaged to have seen.
I’m on my last day of my holiday in Kefalonia and just up the hill from where I’m staying there is a chapel, if you enter the chapel in the far corner is a small stairway of about 5 steps which leads to the entrance of a very small cave. It’s believed this is where St. Gerasimo (forgive the spelling if wrong) lived alone in the cave for 5 years. He is the patron saint of kefalonia.
Anyhow, I had the chapel to myself and was just sat on a chair admiring the immense beauty of the decoration of the walls and paintings when a group of 4 gentlemen and 2 ladies entered the church. Two of the gentlemen and one of the ladies were very elderly and were being assisted by the others. As I sat there minding my own business I heard what can only be described as the most moving thing I’ve ever witnessed, the elderly gentleman all walked to the front of the chapel and started chanting/singing Greek Jewish prayer. I sat for at least 20 minutes whilst these men, led in the prayer by one, just listening intently, if honest I felt like I was intruding.
After these gentlemen had finished the whole group were very tearful and embracing one another. I left and sat outside on a wall and the party starting to leave the chapel, one of the younger ladies in the group came over and said hello and then went on to tell me that these very elderly people were survivors of the German/Italian/Bulgarian occupation of Greece during the war, all of them being young children at the time and this was their first time back on the island in all them years.
Honestly didn’t know where to write this or even to share with you all as it was such a private and very moving thing to have witnessed, none of us could imagine what these people had seen and lived through.

Apologies if any of the facts are incorrect but this is how I remembered what she told me.
How moving to have seen this and be able to know why they were there. That generation lived through things so horrible, I have so much respect for them

Lovely story . I've been to that chapel too. Just down the road from the winery ( just for Fred's benefit)

Morning all, hope everyone is well today. @Kurt.’s story is so moving. One of my favourite films of all time is Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and I think it really captures the spirit of the Greeks.
My work session has been cancelled this morning so me and Mr P have a day with nothing pencilled in. The world’s our oyster! Got to find something to take our minds off the game tomorrow- it could be wonderful or horrible depending on the score, I don’t see any middle ground outcome tbh.
Enjoy your day, the weather is warming up for the weekend 💙

Morning all, temperatures forecast for 23 today and as decorating is finished (hooray) we may take the bus to Stamford, today is market day.
We looked after Jess yesterday evening whilst Mum, Dad and big sis went to look at a prospective secondary school. This involved playing schools and as a consequence our doors now have various signs “Welcome to Yaer (sic.) 2 “ “This is a good school” and “rated “Good” . I was chosen to be the teacher, I decided to start with Sums, ”I can’t do sums“ came the reply “but I am very good at Maths!” lol
Regular readers may recall that she wanted to be the tooth fairy when she grew up, not any more, she wants to be a gymnasticser.
Have a good day,all💙

Haven’t seen the film. The book was listed on one of those 50books you must read lists, I tried but gave up, I just couldn’t get into it.
Did you pick your tree yesterday?

You've presumably never come across NeroD'Avolo a lovely red from Sicily or Montiplicello ( sic).D'Abruzzo
Bloody hell this is like what did the Romans do for us. I do actually like a Montipulciano (is that what you meant) and some Siciluan reds as they tend to be a bit more full bodied. But apart from decent Italian restaurants you can't find them anywhere. And I did say generally which means usually or not always.

And Blue, in the unlikely event that I ever decide to have chips with pasta then I nay consider putting Chuanti on them.😀

Good morning all. Having a quick teabreak. Your granddaughter sounds like a hoot @Gwladysover.
Hopefully we can get three points tomorrow. I was talking to my son about us last night. He is clinging to the hope that we are like Brighton. If you remember a few seasons ago they were creating loads of chances but couldn't score to save their lives. Then they got it right. We are creating the chances in our home games so hopefully we will get it right soon.

Anyway you're a Philistine Fred. Red wine with curry ..............urgggh !

Beer or at a push zingy white like a NZ sauvignon blanc.

All joking aside I love a fullbodied red wine but only in winter. I drink red throughout the year but usually much lighter reds like Cotes du Rhone in Spring / Summer.

Mrs J doesn't do proper wine like Medoc / Paullac and St Emillion.

You mean like when they had Maupay in their side and got rid of him to whoever was idiotic enough to pick him up.

Yes I can see tha parallels.

Brighton had a young progressive manager like Potter and we have....................oh , well maybe not lol
