Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all. It is hot here but muggy and clammy. Not nice. I have been 100% domestic goddess this morning- ironing, carpet cleaning and I even cleaned the inside of my car. Off to the gym at 12 and then I'm going to watch the cricket for the rest of the day.
Sorry to hear about your brother in law @Barnfred 55. That's rough. The positive thing is that non Hodgkins lymphoma responds well to treatment and the survival rates are very good. So I've got everything crossed for him.
Love the kitties @blueloon.
Have a good day with the grandchildren @Gwladysover
For the cooks amongst us I made this the other night. Ot was amazing - I added asparagus as well as broccoli

That looks super ,we love asparagus too.

Forgot to mention earlier, probably because I'm trying not to think about it. I spoke to my sister this afternoon. The results have come back on my brother in laws biopsy and they think he has non hodgkins lymphoma which is a type of cancer similar to leukaemia. They need further tests to confirm but I doubt they would have mentioned it if they weren't reasonably certain. He's seeing the consultant next week so we'll find out mire then. She put him on tge phone and he seemed in good spirits. Fingers crossed the treatment won't be too invasive for him.
The lady who I used to wrk for was diagnosed with non Hodgkins in 1999, she’s still going strong at 85! Best wishes to your Bro in law.💙

Morning all, wife now asleep so I can try and get a few hours. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday……
It’s beautiful in the Midlands at the moment…..
Bloody hell Pete you posted those 2 messages at 2.57 and 6.40 am today.

When do / can you sleep? I know from my own experience that looking after a loved one can take it's toll and my mum is much more able to do things for herself than Mrs P from your messages.

I'm genuinely worried for you mate. I know you are a very intelligent man but often when you are that close to the problem some logical thinking is lost.

Please ensure that you get enough rest yourself otherwise you won't be able to look after Mrs P in the way in which you want to. Is it not possible to get daily respite assistance?

Sorry if this message seems like I'm being nosey, but I'm not , just concerned for you that's all given that I have a tiny insight into what you are having to cope with ( mum insisted on getting up at 2am yesterday and getting washed dressed and have her breakfast even though her dementia clock told her it wasn't time to get up!)

Take care mate.

Thanks for the concern Jazzy. It’s true that sleep patterns are somewhat fluid but I do get some respite. My son is a godsend in this respect in that our routines allow me a couple of hours each day with friends while my son takes my wife out for a drive or a visit to Tesco. I seem to sleep in one hour or two hour chunks during the night before waking at 6am to change my wife. After doing so and cleaning her, she will go straight back to sleep and then sometime between 7-8am I’ll doze off for an hour or so, so it’s not too bad it’s just different. When I worked, the project directors who worked for me were based all around the globe and I was well versed in dealing with the numerous time differences so it’s a bit like being at work again, except that it’s all closer to home. As I say, thanks for the concern as it provides a bit of support in a similar way to meeting up with my friends, but without the beer 🍺

@peteblue I can only echo what @jazzy said. Please do not neglect your own well- being while you look after Mrs Pete.

Thanks Anj, but as you personally well know, we all have issues and people that we worry and care about and this thread provides a bit of a lifeline for us all to let it out when needed. I look at the issues some of my friends are dealing with in respect of their partners and then appreciate how lucky I am in comparison. It’s just a case of getting used to and then dealing with the situation……

I would echo the others on here Pete, you make sure you take care of yourself too. We had my father in law living with us as he got older, then he was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia . We needed Carers coming in four times a day in the end , intrusive but necessary. And my older sister sadly has Alzheimer’s and is a care home in Manchester. We’re all aware of what you’re going through, best wishes to you, you have my admiration.

Thanks BL, that must have been tough for you all. I appreciate your sister cannot improve as it’s degenerative, but I hope she doesn’t suffer in any way……

Once again I thank Karl for this wonderful thread and the help or shoulder to lean on it provides .Those last few posts epitomise the whole reason it was started / continued and I for one am once again in awe of the care and well wishes that are posted on here .
I post PM's to @peteblue from time to time and I can say beyond doubt he will appreciate every single word posted .

Hello all. It's been a fun day today so far. Took Mr F to work this morning and we noticed water gushing up between the kerb stones outside our house. Our water pressure was really low as well. I reported it as soon as I got back and Northumbrian Water have been digging since about 10 am. We've got no water but have been supplied with 6 litres of water from the guys trying to fix the leak. I've also delivered my quota of the village magazine so loads of steps done.
I had some lovely unexpected visitors yesterday afternoon. My cousin, her husband and youngest child called on to see us. They had been helping her daughter move into new accommodation for her last year at Newcastle Uni. They stayed for a couple of hours so that was nice.
Have a good day all x
