Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Mushy pea curry lol Don't know why but I found that hilarious for some reason.

But if you think about it why not. I imagine it would be a bit like a dhal. I can see it as a side dish. What did you have with it?
It does end up like a dhal. With rice and I had one of those packs of Indian accompaniments I got in Tesco so we had that - a couple of onion bhagis , pakoras, that kind of thing. Cooked a crazy amount just for the two of us so had the rest for lunch yesterday. I need to wok on my portions, my son has recently moved out and daughter was out with her boyfriend. I'm so used to cooking for 4, it just comes naturally!

The baked beans have thrown me a bit lol, I have had beans ruin other dishes i have cooked in the past and added beans to it for no reason and spoilt it haha.

Too right. Forgot to say I loved your story about you and Cal swimming off Elba! Really made me smile. Not swimming related but beach related. Mr F and I went to Ibiza a few years ago. Stayed off the beaten track in a lovely hotel run by an Italian family. We would walk to the beach each morning and discovered it was where all the elderly Spanish nudists hung out. Honestly there was about 8 of them and none of them looked younger than 70. They never batted an eyelid when we walked past, would wave and greet us with a cheery "Hola!" as we made our way further along the beach!
That reminds me of a walk we did along a beach in Lanzarote yonks ago. There was an old guy, mahogany brown and wrinkled, sitting on the sand in his budgie smugglers, except the budgie was hanging out the side. Not a pretty sight. lol

Can't see me being one to laze about in retirement.
I get twitchy after 3 days on holiday and need to find something to do.
I'll be like the old man, still grafting into my dotage just to have something to occupy my time.
There is loads of stuff out there to do and if you pick something you like it never seems like a chore. I was off work for two years after I took redundancy. Got roped into volunteering for "a couple of hours a week" with a community advice group. Ended up spending three days a week there and pretty much running it. Absolutely loved it. I also got a 10 hour a week job at Durham Uni where I was the note taker for two disabled students. I used to go to lectures with them and take the lecture notes for them. so I did the 2nd year of a physics degree and two terms of an archaeology Masters degree. ? That was such a good experience. When I do retire I intend to to try and go back to do that again.

I understand Anj. I have the same problem cooking for 1. I did an omelette last night and I put all sorts of things in, depending on what I have in the fridge. Last night it was onions, mushrooms, bacon and cheese. I had that much filling I couldn't fold the omelette over lol. It was very nice though, even if i do say so myself.
