Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Aye. Both heading towards 80 and still run rings round the rest of us. Mum has had a few scares over the years, breast cancer being the main one, but you would never have known, she never complained once and her positive outlook at all times was a real help to the rest of us in dealing with it.
Dad still chooses to work 3 days a week supplying the ships stores in the Freeport with their fresh produce, loads of heavy lifting and physical work. He loves it the madman lollol

Absolute legends the pair of them?
Wow, that's brilliant. I hope I'm as sprightly as your dad when I get to his age, and your mum sounds like an absolute trooper, too.

Cook them slowly in butter, not oil. And make sure the blade on the slice thing is as thin as possible. Once the underneath starts to solidify, gently fold one half over the filling, then the other half. It will cook itself from there, as in, you dont need to totally flip the whole thing over. Once done, slide it onto a plate from the frying pan.

As a nice addition, no matter what filling you use, chop some spring onions into it. You will have a lovely crunchy onion experience.

*I need to get back to the real world. Quickly*
How are you doing mate?. What plans have you got for Christmas?

She's nuts. Takes herself off on 15 mile hikes through North Wales for fun every week during the summer. Had to persuade her to cut it back during the colder months as she's gotten older. She wasn't happy lol

Thank you. I'll try that next time
An omelette is one thing I have mastered, I make a banging fluffy omelette. To make it fluff up, once the bottom half is cooked, instead of folding it, put it under the grill to cook the top and it becomes fluffy, then fold it and slide onto a plate. Roydo's way is completely fine also, I'm not making a competition lol lol

Fred does them like me, grilled as well with 3 eggs.

Morning everyone,

As Ken Dodd might have said...just 2 more sleeps before Santa slides down your chimney missus - always wondered how he gets into flats which don't have one - he must have some good housebreaking skills.

Anyway do we look forward to this time of year anymore, especially if you don't have kids?

Must admit in normal times it is lovely to have a big family gathering but even that's in the balance now.

Mum's 94 and lives with us. We have nephews who are teachers with young kids and tests or not I don't want them to mix with mum , particularly as another nephew isn't prepared to get vaccinated ( note to self ...if they come over on Boxing Day don't tell him he's a [Poor language removed] for not getting vaccinated ....he's a kopite so there's plenty to fall out over anyway ) so what do you say or do?

Fred I'm really pleased that you are spending Christmas day with your neighbour friends , I hope that you will be OK.

It is obviously a very poignant time of year and Mrs J will go to visit her mum and dad's grave with her sister today.

As for me I will go to the gym this morning and wrap some pressies .

What is everybody else doing?

I used to look forward to going to the pub for a quick pint on Christmas day but because of so many cancellations they have closed the restaurant and decided not to open the rest of the pub on Christmas day. Tough times in hospitality.

Well I hope everyone finishes their preparations for Christmas today and can enjoy a peaceful and restful festive break.
I’ve always loved Christmas time.

Obviously, as a kid it’s all about getting presents. I can look back now and understand how hard it must have been for my parents to keep up with my lists as we didn’t have much, but my mum was always one of those miracle workers who made sure I had an amazing year every year.

As you get a bit older it’s all about your friends, and getting together, making time for each other and everyone just being that bit nicer to each other. That, and drinking a LOT.

My wife loves Christmas as much as I do so since we got together we’ve always made a lovely time of it, with good food and booze, and enjoying time off work and in each other’s company.

Since we’ve had kids it’s been even more magical. It can be stressful in the buildup but once presents are bought and wrapped and the last food shopping is done there’s nothing else like it. My job is prepping and cooking the food, which I adore, with a glass of something in hand and the music blaring. I’m also in charge of putting batteries in new toys and fixing broken ones, etc.

Just typing that out has made me excited all over again for the big day.

Of course I understand not everyone feels like I do, and that some have no choice in the matter but to spend the day by themselves. I’ll always make time and pop in here during the day so if anyone is in need of a natter over Christmas I’ll be about.

Thank you. You're right about calories. I love spices too. I had been calorie counting and going to the gym from Feb to Oct this year and had lost 33lbs. Then my Dad went into hospital in Liverpool so I was spending half my week there and half at home and my PT had a baby and took 8 weeks paternity leave. Good on him to be honest. The whole thing went tits up and I've put loads back on. And now it's Christmas! I've also discovered I'm an emotional eater. Stressed? Bored? My solution is always, what's in the fridge/ cupboards. So I'm writing it all off until New Year.
I know it's easier said than done Anje, and forgive me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here, but my advice would be to take a mental pause to ask yourself why you're eating before you eat anything. If it's genuine hunger, carry on. If it's because you're stressed, bored, or any other emotional reason, then do something else that would help you address it more effectively. If it's, say, because you're feeling stressed, do something else that helps to de-stress and relax you, but not replace it with another vice, such as drinking.

Any alternative behaviours don't have to necessarily be healthy, as long as they're not unhealthy. Remind yourself that eating doesn't actually address the stress you're feeling, it just diverts you from it for a bit. Chances are, once you've finished the food/snack, the stress is still there and you crave more. If you think beforehand every time you eat emotionally, then respond in a healthier way, after a while the new behaviours become more habitual.

After Christmas though, of course.

Bear with me on this. I made mushy pea curry the other night. It sounds vile but it is actually surprisingly good. And if the budget is tight not an expensive thing to make. Happy to share the recipe if you want it.
Mushy pea curry? That sounds grim. Do you spend the following morning on the toilet? Sorry, I'm talking about bowel movements again. What is wrong with me?
