Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning all. It seems the bad news keeps on coming. SIL’s grandad was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon with breathing difficulties. I can’t help thinking the strain of being the victim of the burglary last week must have taken its toll. Had a message from daughter at 9pm to say he was being treated in a corridor (no beds in A&E) whilst waiting to be admitted. Bit better news is they caught the distraction burglar, they have charged him with 17 offences.

Our experience was broadly similar.

Because she went in an ambulance she was triaged straight away and fortunately we didn't have to sit in the disgusting waiting room ( I had to navigate the filth of the room and pissed individuals later when I went toilet and left - words fail me ).

Yes mum was treated in a corridor too and will be kept in for blood transfusions but no ward places.

Honestly this country is in deep deep 💩.

All the staff were fantastic but there simply aren't enough resources.

Going back to the maelstrom in a few minutes to see her.

As if her situation isn't bad enough the lack of space and privacy is degrading. We truly live in a 3rd world country.

Awful situation for your poor Mum and you too. Third world country doesn’t even begin to describe it, those in power should hang their heads in shame. Hope things have improved overnight for your Mum.💙

Good morning all on this fine day ,I hope all are well and had a great night .Off to the dental hygienist today for us both ,that means an early start then shopping and the computer shop . Have a great day all COYB
No news of an overheated iron in Cornwall so it seems they are not close enough or @Val P and Mr P are entralled with each other .Which is wonderful.
I think you put her off Blue.

Sorry to hear this mate.

Have they charged the rules on DNR? They used to ask for family consent. Ir maybe I'm getting confused with nursing homes.
They ask the family for ‘consent’ but in reality that just means determining whether the patient themselves has expressed a wish. Ultimately the decision is made by the treating consultant though.

Couldn't have put it better AT

We were "consulted" last night / early morning but the Dr made clear that the final decision was his alone and that he was strongly in favour of DNR for mum ( even described in pretty graphic terms the injuries that she would suffer if they attempted CPR ).

In fact it's the correct decision in mum's case but I wonder with other patients less able to advocate for themselves if they feel bullied into "agreeing".

Anyway been back to hospital this morning and no change. Mum hasn't had a transfusion yet and she might need 3 . Dr thinks that she either has an ulcer or bowel.cancer but agrees with me that the invasive tests to ascertain the underlying cause won't lead to treatment options because of her age / condition so what's the point of putting her through it.

Going back this afternoon.

Knackered.

Understandable for him to be ill after all the stress he has been through.

Good that the burglar has been apprehended but only if they get a sufficiently harsh sentence. Do you know if they were local to the area or just targeting somewhere to rob?

I have been in the same position myself recently with the DNR discussion and it is harrowing. I did ask for resuscitation as I knew it was what they wanted but at the same time gladly accepted that the decision would be made by someone considerably more knowledgable than me in these matters. Just one of those times in life you have to trust strangers and you just be there to support however you can.

Looks absolutely lush.

On the subject of Lidl Seville Marmalade, I noticed mine is made in County Laois which somewhat dulled my expectations.

Sorry to hear this jazzy, it does sound horrific that she is getting treatment in a hallway
Sounds like the staff are going there best for her, hope she gets the care and comfort she deserves
