Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I noticed this morning that our kitchen is very much in need of a deep clean. Like you dont notice your kids growing, I didnt realise how much grime and crap were on the range and the wooden cupboards.

So spent the day getting them all sparkling today. Just water and Fairy, and a few sponges, and the whole room looks absolutely brand new now! Simple things sometimes.
Nice on Roydo. How much will it cost you to get to Maidenhead? I will go halves. lol

That's weird. How accurate are these things and are they able to attribute the breakdown to either parent or only when you also take a test?
My mom asked me the same thing and my answer was: accurate enough to report on my daughter's Colombian genes lol The DNA sample we took and mailed in were from inside my daughter's cheeks. We sent it, then create an account online to have access to the results. But we never completed any personal information, except for her name and DOB, for the company to know that she was part Colombian. Moreover, the person that gave me this DNA test had done some research on the company (CRI Genetics) and they seem legitimate and qualified to do such testing. "The Chief Scientific Officer of CRI Genetics (Cellular Research Institute, Genetics Department) is led by Alexei Fedorov Ph.D., a molecular geneticist with over 35 years of experience studying DNA. A former apprentice to Nobel Prize winning scientist Walter Gilbert, Alexei has created a proprietary DNA analysis algorithm using the latest breakthroughs in genetic science. His lifetime goal has been to advance mankind’s understanding of the human genome into new frontiers." So I'm thinking that there may be some accuracy to these test, not sure about the breakdown. We are still puzzled about the Vietnamese aspect of my daughter's DNA results, the percentage is higher than her Spanish roots. IDK, it is fascinating and only until we do our own DNA test would be able to tell what came from my side and what from my husband's and how accurate the results are once we inspect them all together. This company does more than just DNA testing for ancestry though. For additional fees we can have access to over 120 health & wellness reports based on my daughter's DNA. According to a doctor who is a friend of mine, this is the way that medicine is heading to tackle health issues before they begin.

We pick them , you can buy them and the price depends on the availability from 7€to 10€ fresh per litre !!! but dried are expensive even here . They have a very earthy taste unlike any other and definitely not the same as the yellow chanterelles. They are as the name says late in the year although we usually start as the temperature drops back down to +5 so about September here .
Nice, I have only gone mushroom picking a couple of time but it was such a fun activity. Are they very abundant when you go and pick them? Here in my area half a pound of yellow chanterelles can go for $20. Dry is about the same.

What's the hotter it gets in your area during the summer?

Good morning all today especially our Colombian friend who might not be Colombian after all @Sassy Colombian .So interesting to see those results and I am sure you are still reeling from the results .

Read this before you spend too much money ,although it is meant for sibling discovery I wanted you to see the reason why your daughter might have had so varied and surprising results . https://www.nationalgeographic.com/...t-siblings-different-results-genetics-science
Hahaha, these results are for my daughter so her Colombian percentage is probably not as high as me, but now I'm very curious to know what percentage of Colombian do I have on my DNA. Hopefully in a few weeks we will all know the real answer to my Colombian roots.

Thanks for sending the article, I will definitely go over it before we make the decision to invest on our test.

Good morning all. So much to catch up.on. I am very much in awe of the creativity shown by @fandjango and @blue1948 . I'm rubbish at any kind of arty/crafty stuff so I'm always impressed by people who have that talent. @Gwladysover Pleased to hhear Jessica is feeling better and @Ducans elbow I'm also glad to hear that your wife isn't as bad as first thought. @roydo good going on the kitchen. We hhad lovely day yesterday, bought an all day tticket on the bus and got off at different places of interest. My favourite was going up a mountain using the funicular railway. We also came across a bar where we spent a whopping €7.5 on two beers and two cakes. The prices here are so reasonable. The most we've spent on a meal is €62 which was 3 courses each and sangria. Last day today. Taking a boat trip along the river. @Terrarian IIhope you and Daisy beagle are OK.
Sounds very entertaining, Ange. Continue enjoying yourselves and encountering reasonable prices too. Nothing better than traveling to places when ones money has more purchasing value :)

I and three of my first cousins have done a test and I match more with two of them than the third. Through tracing various DNA matches on family history sites it appears that the three of us with the best match with each other have inherited more DNA from my Grandad and the other from my Nan. Mr G did one and had a match with a first cousin of whom he knew nothing, enquiries with the last remaining aunt revealed that the baby had been given up for adoption and although the aunt was only a child at the time could vividly remember the day a man and woman came to take the baby away. The mother of the baby had passed but she had always kept track of her child, amazingly he had been adopted by a couple who lived only 15 miles away, and amongst her things was a box of news paper clippings she had kept whenever his name appeared in the paper. In a further twist the cousin lived only about half a mile from us and his children attended the same school as ours albeit in different years. I’ve taken up enough of your time, Hope you all have a good day.
How interesting. So is your take that these DNA test have some accuracy or not?

BTW, I always enjoy when you take enough of our time with your stories. You have a great sense of humor too!

Good morning/afternoon lovelies!

As predicted by the weather forecasters, we go some snow over night but the temperature was still 10°C late last night so the ground has been warm and nothing seems to have stick, at least for now. The temperature has been dropping and now is -3°C and it is going to continue dropping during the day so all the wetness on the road because of the snow could become black ice later tonight. So after writing this post I am going to go to the gym for a bit and then I'm thinking the rest of the day we will be having a lazy day at home. No outdoor adventures for us today.

I hope everyone has a nice Saturday. xxx

I think the tests are accurate in telling who you are related to and the closeness of the relationship. As regards ethnicity I am estimated 55%English and NW Europe, 29% Sweden/Denmark and 16% Scotland and given what I know of my family history that would seem fairly accurate as well.
Thanks for the kind words regarding my ramblings and sense of humour which has got me into trouble on occasions as I have been accused of not taking things seriously and making a joke of things. Truth be told a joke is often my way of coping as contrary to appearances I can take things too seriously. Rambling again?

Thanks for sharing ,so much nicer chatting about these things than the worst life has to offer ,I also find it intriguing .

It can get as high as 35° , that is the hottest I have seen here .We have picked upto 40 litres of the Winter chanterelles in one day ,we love to pick and my wife used to take a few baskets per week into work each was about 20 litres and that went on for weeks .Our new place has been much harder to find but we will as you have to learn the forest and we know they are here .
In Finland there is a thing "Everyman's right " ( I hope I haven't told this before !) we are allowed to pick from anywhere as long as it is not within site of the owner's house -and you can sell the pickings without paying tax on the earnings .
Lots of people in the countryside leave the ones they have picked and an honesty box for the money .
There is so much forest here that universities from all over Europe come to see the fungi as some forests have not been looked after and are basically wild .
