2019/20 Michael Keane

Disappointing to be given him a new deal. I just think what he provides is easily replaceable and he wouldn’t be difficult to improve on. A smarter club would have sold him this window imo.

I don’t think that Michael Keane is of the quality required for where we want to be.

At last some good news.

Comfortably our worst senior centre back and in 12 months time likely behind Branthwaite and Gibson too.

How can we sell him in 12 months time when hes getting even higher wages than that oaf Koeman dished out for him?

If Chelsea were after Dunk then surely we could have done some kind of swap deal with Keane and one of their players :(

Or sold him for a half decent fee...

How much worse can it get to have a deal in place for Gabriel, then renegotiate...lose him to a rival and then extend Michael Keanes contract.

Doesnt sit right with me at all.

Cant sell him this window, the fee will be minimal and it will leave us to short, besides I cant see him being on big wages.
Fully expect him to start against Spurs

Makes lots of sense to me.

Priorities. Keane had a really good run of games and has two or three years left in him.
Moshiri has to spend the money on the most urgent issues. And Keane can do.

Who cannot do are Davies, Gilfi, Delph, etc you know the list...

Keane is the best center back at...defending. Maybe 2nd to Holgate, but likely not.

I think Keane is pretty shocking defensively. You could get a league 1 grock and tell them to defend a 6 yard line. In fact Morgan Feeney could probably have done that for us.

Is there £25mil difference between Keane and Feeney when defending a 6 yard box? Probably not.

Neither of them could succeed in anything other than a deep defence which means our whole team would need to sit deep.

We should be shifting him out.

Did he have a "really good run of games", which were they?

I only remember the games he defended the 6 yard box well and the others where he gave away chances due to his inability to do anything other than the above.

It appears to me that if we had got Gabriel then he would have been sold. Because Brands failed Keane is now being rewarded with a new deal...

Shocking.

Rewarding players or managers for that matter that don’t perform consistently or at a particularly high level is how you end up with a 6 year Pickford deal after 1 good season, a big Martinez deal (and mural) after 1 good season, a 5 year Mirallas deal and on and on.

The bloke in his entire time here hasn’t strung 1 good full season together and post lockdown he still had a few howlers. If we give him a new deal we’re stuck with another one. We can’t keep rewarding mediocrity.
