In the league, discounting the pens it's 1 every 245 mins. Given the range of positions he plays and the versatility he shows, that is very commendable. For comparison James stats are 1 every 125 all comps and 1 1 every 146 in the league, so better but he is more injury prone than Sigurdsson.

I'm not going to go back to look at Osman but would imagine in some seasons he would produce similar numbers, doing a similar job. I agree with you re the fee of £40m was too steep, which isn't his fault, but we are not evaluating now whether we pay 40m for him. We are evaluating whether he is worth keeping on for another season if his form holds up. I'm not sure there are that many, who can give us his goals/assists (even discounting pens) are pretty reliable (he is rarely injured) and can give us the tactical flexibility the manager clearly likes.

As has been pointed out, that Neto (who I really lik) has 13 g/a around 1 every 200 mins. That Traore has 1 every 550 minutes. So it's not as easy as people think in my view mate.

You’ve got to analyse much deeper than the G/A numbers to really understand the contribution (or potential contribution) of a player. Clubs now look to use scouting software to see how clever CF’s and WF’s press, ball recoveries in the final third, accuracy of passes in final third, touches in opposition box, shot accuracy, shot to goal ratio etc. Carlo will have an idea of what he wants in a WF and will probably be advised by the club and Brands on potential targets that fit that profile. Their G/A might only form part of their discussion. Jota had a similarly low G/A output to Neto at Wolves too, seemed a bizarre transfer at the time. I think Neto would be perfect for Everton but he has a big injury right now.

For defenders, does Carlo want a ball carrying central defender? Does that fit his system? It is the same thing in the approach.

Just watched their goals over a few times and even though I'm no fan of Keane but he was really unlucky. The cross is an inch over Holgate (not his fault) and Keane can only get a head to it a split second after being able to see the ball,and the rebound would fall to Kane of all players.
 

Never going to be able to move beyond defending on the edge of our own box with this big goof in the team every week.
 
Arguably our most consistent defender up until the inane Southgate dropped him from the England squad, maybe that’s affected his confidence ?

Was my player of the season around Christmas time, I certainly recall the debate of DCL vs him.

I don’t think the back 5 thing works well for us at all, but he was pivotal in the wall, but ultimately I don’t want us to play that way next year.

The wall worked for what it was, but without a fast breaking midfielder and winger it'll always be limiting.

Bought him off the back of exactly that at burnley. Burnley midfield camped in front of him on the edge of their box made him look better than he is. And thats the hard truth. He's just okish.
Back when Ronald Koeman was doing his best impression of richard pryor in brewsters millions.
