Not saying Mina is the best cb in the world game by any stretch, but he's the best we've got at the club, and I know we have his fitness issues to worry about, but he needs to be starting when he's available.

We're more composed and just look better when he's playing - Yerry is the leader Godfrey needs and Godfrey can be minas legs, it makes sense.

Holgate and Keane are miles worse than Yerry.
If Benitez decides to play the back four deep in a game then Mina is an asset. If we move further up the pitch - as we were always likely to do yesterday against S'ton - then he's a liability against 2 pacy strikers.

He's a disgrace to the great centre halfs we've had down the years. Weak, spineless, slow, doesn't command, can't pass. He's an absolute none entity. Sell.

I think we need better but that's a bit harsh mate...

I've shared a view a few times over the years but I think he'd benefit most from our centre halfs from having a decent half alongside him.

I get that, but our only CB who isn't worried by pace is Godfrey.

Keane is better than holgate, and performs better with Mina or Godfrey next to him.

We can deal with pace with better organisation, which I think Yerry brings, so Keane and yerry is better than holgate and anyone.

I agree anyone alongside Holgate seems to struggle - mainly he has lost his pace since his injury which was his main asset Holgare struggles our defence is vulnerable Keane looked uncomfortable most of the game TBF ....awful dilly dallying on the ball was down to him though for their goal .....

Holgate is an emergency RB only in my view.

Is the correct answer ;)

He’s not a disgrace, Jesus Christ we’ve had far far worse defenders, Kroldrup, Alcaraz, Thomas to name 3

Holgate was pathetic in trying to challenge Adams once Keane had the ball knicked, stay on his feet and it doesn’t go through to Armstrong, instead he goes in with the tackle and got megged

I imagine Holgate was shocked at the total ineptitude (again) of his partner.

The only thing you can accuse Holgate of is not having 3 eyes, as he'd need one to watch out for the oaf's mistakes all game.

He needs to toughen because Benitez will lose patience with him and turf him out if he continues with his meek nature.

He played him at LCB rather than on the right so it doesnt appear that Benitez has bothered to analyse Keanes performances over the years. Especially on the left where hes an accident waiting to happen.

Hopefully he'll watch some videos now and put him out for pasture.

Why on earth is he even in that area of the pitch, isn’t he meant to be the left sided centre back? What’s he running into Holgate for? He is absolutely dire.

The whole thing was bizarre.

Plays his best football with Mina alongside him , said it a few times meself.
Put Holgate or even Godfrey there & he's not half the player.

With Mina he's played very deep under Ancelotti so hes in his comfort zone.

Also can pass responsibility to Mina.

Id be interested to see how much other players performance are affected by having to worry about him.

….as is Keane but at least Mina is combative and competitive, he’ll look to get his bulk in the way of the runner or bring him down. I think he’s a better defender than Keane but Benitez clearly disagrees. I assume with his selection yesterday he feels Mina is some way down the pecking order.

Mina has a good sense generally of where danger is and moves...if he can...to snuff it out. Neither Keane nor Holgate have that in their locker. But in any game against pacy forwards Mina is just as much a liability as those two.

We need to sell Keane and Holgate and reinvest in another CB.
