Do me a favour, Keane was marking MGW 30 yards from
Our goal and MGW drops 5 yards, you see CB’s tracking forwards to the half way line all the time. And yes once he doesn’t go with him he shouldn’t engage him. So he basically made 2 mistakes

Personally don't think he should engage there and hes in two minds about it.

However..Onana and Gana are in no man's land here and provide zero.

Keane should've just stayed put.

Personally, I think AD should not go out to press in this situation, but instead cover space. There is an imbalance in the midfield, and then we have to delay and be compact.

When the pass is played, Keane has two choices: He can follow the player to deny him time and space to turn towards goal. At the same time, Coleman, Tarkowski and Godfrey must become compact centrally.

The other alternative is to be patient, delay, and hope that a midfielder picks up the player, and applies pressure.

If not, he has to press when the player approaches the semi-circle. (Coleman, Tarkowski, and Godfrey become compact: Press, cover, balance).

Unfortunately, Keane chooses something in between, and is flat-footed with a bad body position, and the rule for the defender when exposed to a wall pass is to seek body contact immediately.

Coleman should also do a better job - he is too wide. Godfrey, on the other hand, is too narrow. McNeil should also have perceived the situation, and followed the player.

You make it sound so easy that no soccer team should ever concede goals.

United conceded seven tonight, so in concise summary format, would you please explain the deficiencies in the backline?

Players have split seconds to make decisions, and sometimes they make mistakes, that's football.

You misunderstand. I'm not saying it's easy.

As for Manchester United, they don't have a very good collective defensive game, but they have - like the best teams - the best players and that hides quite a few structural flaws.

But had he stayed with him when he was next to him, probably 10 seconds before that clip. And tracks him, weren’t really in much danger as they had no players ahead of the ball,
Bar Johnson and he was of to the right

When he’s playing any ball down the channel just panicked me. I’ve never seen a CB look so awkward coming out to deal with a curled ball down the line. He seems to get caught in these weird situations where he he heads the ball two or three times in a row to get it clear.

Looks like hes half asleep

Helped us stay up last year and had an assist today to give us a result. They’ll pin it on him if we go down even though he hasn’t played for 98% of the season. Clowns.

Youre off your head.

No way they’re carting him out for interviews.

Shambolic.

Didnt do one thing or the other...so so so passive in his confusion.

If he doesn't know by now that nothing good comes of him stepping out, he's probably never going to figure it out.

@Carlito sums him up well.

He looks awkward at all times. On the ball when he positions himself as if hes going to knock a Koeman-esque 40 yard pass into space/feet...then he just does a hit and hope.

Im yet to see what hes good at bar headers in the 6 yard box.

I think his legs and his head are on the wrong way round

He'd probably play better then.

If it were Coady he'd have either engaged with him or screamed for players to get near him. Keane did neither.

Like I've said, I ain't not fan of his and ether way he shouldn't be playing.

Keane had to go towards the player that's what you do. It was the midfield who were not doing their jobs right. I'm not Keane biggest fan but I'm not sure you can blame him fir the goal. There were other players to look at first.

I'm no fan of Keane's,.but, he was ok yesterday, certainly no worse than Coady has been since the world cup. I still think he is far too slow on the turn and not aggressive enough, but, he was ok yesterday.
