2023/24 Michael Keane

He’ll be straight back in the starting XI when Branthwaite has a bad game.

….no he won’t. He didn’t play in the crucial run-in last season when Branthwaite wasn’t available. Branthwaite had an operation and was immediately in the team following it.

Now that Mina and Coady have left, Keane is the back-up CB. If Tarkowski or Branthwaite are missing, Keane will play.

The suggestion that Dyche is desperately wanting to get him back in the team is ludicrous.

Hows he "not at fault", he gave them a free goal and let the team and fans down.
Loads of pundits, including kopite pundits, have stated it shouldn't have been a penalty. Either way, we're arguing over the minutiae, neither of us want him anywhere near the team.

His hand was outstretched; penalty...
It's a stupid rule, but yes, according to the letter of the stupid new law that every defender must run as if they have no arms whatsoever, it was a penalty. Once again, I think he's rubbish, I think he should be nowhere near the team but that penalty could have just as easily happened with one of our other defenders. It will happen with one of our other defenders before the season is out.

Agree; I just hope that when a Liverpool hand is outstretched in the area and it goes to VAR, a penalty is not given because of proximity or some other dumb, cheating reason...

Wouldn't surprise me if it does though.

If that’s not handball then handball doesn’t exist, only in the case of a Suarez-esque deliberate punch off the line. Nobody deliberately handles the ball 99% of the time. It was as clear a handball as I think you’ll ever see.

What’s sad is he seems a really nice lad, he’s just an absolute mess of a centre back and should have been bombed out the club years ago. But dyche’s blind loyalty towards him means he’s one injury or suspension from being back in the team which is terrifying.
Did dyche really have to bring him in on yesterday? Seemed dyche used the opportunity to get him on the pitch when it was unnecessary.

Regardless of if he is crap or not (and generally he is) it's always him. He is a complete Jonah.

Blind loyalty to him? He is barely seeing any playing time. He will get a bit of game time because we have left ourselves with very few centre back options.

He's a Championship player at best, but no Championship club would or could pay him anything like what he's on with us. Was it under Ancelotti that he was given a contract extension?
