I don't buy this 'he's great but Jags and Williams are making him look bad' stuff.
A terrible pass from him nearly gifted Lukaku a goal yesterday, awful positioning against Atalanta cost us a goal. Directly responsible for Morata's goal too.

I like him but let's not pretend he isn't equally culpable so far this season.

...I think he gets exposed and is clearly nervous playing on the right side of a three. It's not particularly the fault of those around him, he just lacks mobility in those wide areas of the pitch. He's an aerially dominant, conventional CB who has looked at his best in a flat back four.

The squad is work in progress and a number of newer players aren't being seen at their best in a disjointed team.

Still only young and is still learning.

He's a defender in a team devoid of confidence, add to that the change of players around him on a constant basis. He had Martina & Williams either side of him yesterday, he'll probably have Holgate and Jagielka next to him on the weekend. A constant change of 'partners' wont do any player good.

I must admit that Morata goal was absolutely shocking

The amount of people who were on here absolutely adamant that signing a decent centre half from Burnley was going to make us so much better defensively is genuinely absolutely incredible. Just like Williams before him, he's played exactly as anyone who's seen him before would expect. Good in the air, solid in the tackle, not particularly quick, can struggle with good movement, decent if unspectacular on the ball.

He'll be fine in the right unit, and I've no doubt he'll get better, but he's basically just a younger version of the centre halves we already had rather than an answer to our problems. His own performances over recent weeks have been atrocious though, and he can't just blame the others for that.

Keane isn't a top 4 defender, not right now at least. He only has one-and-a-half seasons of Premier League experience, and those were scraps to get to 40 points. His on the ball skills need work. The key here is, there's hope he can improve, but he isn't really ready to form a partnership with an even less experienced player, ie. Holgate. So he's stuck with either Jags or Williams as a partner, at least in our 4-man defense formation. Yesterday he didn't look good as the right side CB in a 5-man defense, possibly he lacks the experience (no clue if Burnley lined up like this) and god knows Martina is a bad defender that needs extra help on his own assignments. Holgate, on the other hand, has looked better in a 3 CB formation, than in a 2 CB formation.

I've not been impressed at all. He is good in the air granted but his all round play has been pretty poor barring the odd decent performance. His positioning in the Atalanta game was dreadful and again yesterday he looked really unsure in posession. He doesn't even seem to have a burst of pace over ten yards that even some slower defends do.

Hope he improves because Jagielka and Williams aren't going to get any better.

We haven't seen Holgate in a 2 CB formation have we? Other than at right back. (Not saying we should btw)
