One of the most concerning things I’ve noticed is how poor he is at heading the ball. He rarely wins an aerial challenge (despite his height) and certainly doesn’t attack the ball.

He should have buried that chance at the end against Chelsea too.
That is completely false. Extrapolating that from one missed offensive header doesnt make it close to true. Not only does it look like the one thing he does well is win headers, but the stats bear that out, as he wins almost as many aerial duels a game as our next two best CBs combined(Holgate and Williams).

If our fans are going to bash him for his biggest strength, he is never going to survive the Goodison mob.

It is mystifying how many I swear have never seen this guy play. He's terrific in the air in his own end. He's also very fast for someone his size. At Burnley, he was the second fastest guy on the team behind Andre Gray, yet some here think he's slow. Does he look hesitant? Yes. Is he playing fast? No. But the physical talent is there. Our first few games he was our best defender and then he got hurt. He's starting to come back into form.

I would like to see a bit more bite from him, though.

I agree, physically I think he has most of the tools, I think he has good straight line speed, his one issue is his turn and his agility in small spaces, which is why I think pairing him with the likes of Jagielka makes him look worse, and he would be a good duo with Holgate who has that quickness but lacks his ability in the air.

His mental strength is a worry for me, if you fall apart like he did against Southampton it suggests you struggle under real pressure. Put that with his general lack of aggressiveness/pace then I think you have a problem. At the minute i'd be getting rid of Williams, Jagielka and him in the summer and bringing in 3 new centre halves.
