good player. i would be starting him alongside jags(c) with holgate on the bench.

needs to be shown support still has a lot of development in him.

Yeah its daft to write him off just yet.

I have been less than impressed with him so far but it is worth pointing out (and this applies to a fair amount of players we have..) he has played under 3 different managers already this season and never with a regular partner as the back 4 has changed on a weekly basis. He has also had a couple of annoying injuries to contend with.

Certainly needs to pull his finger out but I don't think he is a total lost cause either.

I don't want to write him off, but in a season of utterly horrible central defensive displays, I'd say that Keane has probably been the worst of all of them, and that is some statement

So whilst I'm prepared to give him time, I don't get the "he should be starting" comments because he has done absolutely nothing to deserve it that I've seen

I would have Williams in this team ahead of Keane. every day of the week. Distin? do me a favour
Alcaraz is arguable, but I still think the bunny in the headlights that is MK is worse
Heitinga? yeah sure
Senderos, wasn't great but again, no
Ferrari, LUcas Neill? ridiculous

So you really do actually believe that Michael Keane is the worst ever defender to play Everton? Fair enough mate, but I think you're letting your frustration and annoyance at the current state of affairs at the club colour your views.

Not having a go at you at all - just think it's madness to be writing Keane off after 15/16 games in a team that is seriously struggling - and was struggling before he arrived.

I just think back to Baines' first season after he joined from Wigan... he didn't settle straight away but went on to be our first choice left back for a decade.

I honestly believe this lad has something to offer.

The trouble is he needs an arm around him sometimes and I don't think that is Fat Sams style.

Jagielka at RB when he first came as well, he was horrendous

yes. I mean the standard of defenders at Everton has been reasonably high over the years we've always been more defence based. The thing that freaks me out with Keane is his positional sense. The goals vs Soton Bournemouth where he literally stood in no mans land whilst runners swept past him, but I have no faith in him to know what he's doing.

That has the ring of truth. His defending has been the worst I have ever seen from an Everton player, some accolade for a, gulp, £30m defensive signing

There it is again. The amount of overreactions on this forum after poor performances and poor form are laughable.

Keane had a good run of games in pre-season and was actually OK at the start of the season. As the teams form turned poor with the tough set of fixtures, his form suffered too and I don't think there will be many that try to claim that he has proven himself to be worth the fee as yet. That doesn't mean he should be written off though as sometimes there is more to it, and in this case there has been.

He quite clearly has suffered a painful injury and apparently that was during the Sunderland game. The Sunderland game came after we had just played Chelsea, Spurs and Man United in the League.

Personally, I see a decent player in there and would like to see him eased back in to the team. I acknowledge he has been poor so far but I reckon he could be a good player for us in better personal circumstances and when the team circumstances are more favourable. Which can also be said for a number of other players who've suffered poor form this season but are clearly talented players.

With respect, that could easily apply to the lumbering liability that is Ashley Williams who, being a supposedly inspirational international captain, should at least be marshalling the defence and taking more responsibility given his experience and regardless of Keane's transfer fee. Instead of which, unfortunately, hes usually sprawled out or on all fours in the box shaking his head (if hes got back there, like )
