minor things that make you fume

I doubt there is much mail these days, well compared to 20 years ago e-mail and the ease of contact via internet have surely decreased the volume of post, it's the same here in Ireland the cost is gone through the roof, it cost us 55 euros to send our Christmas cards last year, we've decided that when they bring the price up again we'll stop sending cards at Christmas, €55 granted it's not going to break us but it could be better spent elsewhere, the postal service do need to get their act together with regard to cost.

Surely population increase, Amazon and Ebay sales and well as standard gumpf, post has increased many times over. We get lots more now than when I was a kid.

Either way, I agree, it is terrible and they need to get their act together.

Never thought of Amazon etc, fair point, we seem to get less post now, I seem to remember my ould fella getting post almost daily, all I get is my pay slip every fortnight don't see any post most weeks other than that.

The Royal Mail do a bit of Amazon stuff, in terms of the billions of stuff Amazon shift, (they use mainly their own drivers, but lob stuff at other companies if needs be), but like you, I probably get about 5 letters a month. Which are generally thrown away cos they just replicate a text or email asking for the same thing. Money usually.

Literally fuming.

When you relax at the end of a hard day's work in the garden and try to light a well earned pipe with a feisty lighter when the wind blows the flame up your nostril.

Now my beer smells of burning hair ffs.

I don't know who they are, but life is better without that constant distraction, My school banned mobile phones during school hours including breaks, turns out there is more chat at lunch time, the students are actually talking to each other, every student at the start of the year was against the idea but now a lowball estimate 80% think it is a good idea. I have personally stopped using it as much as I used to, I have my old smart phone that I'm using now connected to the Wi-Fi at home and the phone I bring out with me is one of the remakes of an old Nokia with no internet, I'm not constantly checking my phone like I used to I get a call or a text and that's it no notifications no e-mails no distractions.
In your case it's a personal choice and in the case of your school sheer common sense. But I'm against blanket bans from government on things like this, when other measures (such as your schools') are possible and better.

When you ask for a 1st class letter at the post office, they say "do you want it to get there tomorrow", in which case you need to send it special delivery for about £7!!

1st class is still meant to get there tomorrow and usually will but they are trying to ramp up extras revenue by making out it wont.

I asked the girl about this and she said they have been told to say it.

Really annoys me, what happened to our post office. When I was a kid you'd get 2 posts by 10:00 am and now it is one by about 3pm also it costs 70p for a first class letter!!

How have they got it so wrong, all the extra mail they now send , it shouldvbe cheaper not so much more!!!
Special Delivery has to be signed for. I never send anything that's worth more than the paper it's printed on by ordinary mail.

And of course the Internet involves a vast amount more than social media, which seems to be your particular gripe. Modern industry, trade and finance would shut down for more than your "couple of days over Easter" if there was any shutdown actually happen.
