minor things that make you fume

Everytime I hear the phrase "housing shortage" i want to scream.
Round us every bit of spare land is being developed by the housebuilders, a rough estimate being around 4000 or so new homes. Driving outside my immediate area and all you see is hoardings and building sites.
What I don't see are houses getting demolished they're still standing.

Wow, 7 years on and this is more relevant than ever.

I told my girlfriend off for eating fajitas too loudly the other day lol it was horrible

I read that far too quickly and was going to compliment you and your girlfriend on having such an open and "no holes barred" relationship.

Then I saw you said "Fajitas too loudly".

Loads of new build estates were going up round me. Each to their own, but I’d hate to live in one. Seen some beautiful areas flattened.

There’s going to be tonnes of unused office space that could be renovated into apartments but I think city centres are going to become less desirable places to live.

Rabbit hutches. Built right on top of one another. No space for cars which end up parked on verges. I suppose ultimately the houses at the bottom of the chain end up in the hands of letting agencies giving the impression they're not available.

I think this alludes to the lack of social house building.

Loads of private stuff being built around here, but god knows how people afford them.

The cheaper/affordable houses usually end up being sold off plan to housing associations. Even those that are left on the market, they are usually squirrelled away from the main drag, and unless you live in one, or (me) deliver to them, you wouldnt know they existed.

Build quality is shocking. But again, superficially, they look fine. Try knocking on a door of one.

All true. I was actually at a site today and among the five and six bedroom builds were a terrace of six two bedroom houses sticking out like a sore thumb. Room for one car right outside front door. They were the affordable units already let by housing associations.

The docks by me was developed, (beautifully tbf), into a marina about 15 years ago. Its triffic. Naturally, and you will know this, the first 3 large apartment blocks built were top level builds.

The others, okay, but not quite as good. The affordable stuff are chronic.

My Dad asked me how I knew which flats were affordable, and those that wernt. Told him its simple. The affordables dont have a sea nor marina view. Basically look at each other across a road.

edit. Nor a lift.

It’s the law isn’t it that developers have to include some affordable housing when building a new estate?
Got to be very lucky to get decent social housing.

Tis indeed. I mean, they are not terrible, and my town is a lovely place to live, but the difference in build quality, size, and like I said, views, is palpable.
