minor things that make you fume

Give my gas and electric meter readings earlier. Last done it in November. New online bill shows -£1,800 debit. Reckon my direct debit will be going up again. Yikes.
Good Lord. That's an insane amount per month. At least £600 per month, possibly more depending on when in November you last took the reading.

Our bill for gas and electric combined is less than £300 per month and we're not on a special fix tariff or anything. Are you in big / poorly insulated house? Have you checked to make sure your meter isn't faulty?

Panic over. I’ve rang them earlier and looks like I messed the reading up. Put a one instead of a seven. All sorted.

Trying to complete my self employed return for the first time.

Have used quickbooks so have all information there. But i work full time in the public sector, on the books for a university at only 16hrs per year, on the books for 1-1 support work at 4hrs per week. Then do my self employed work separately.

Have the return drafted online and from what i can make of it i am expected to pay the full amount i earned self employed back in tax, doesn't seem right so phone HRMC and they can't help unless i submit and said it can be amended again if needed.

Wish this was a bit more straightforward.

I got it sorted after hours on the phone waiting to speak to someone, 3 times i got through to HMRC advisors on the webchat and it took the 3rd person to understand what was happening, only because i explained it to them.

They were trying to add on 2 student loan payments to my tax bill based on my total income, disregarding that i pay my student loan through my main employer, even though that was in my return. So i should only be paying extra for student loan on the additonal income not the overall as most has already been accounted for.

So bill has been reduced and all sorted.
