minor things that make you fume

Getting home at 1am. Setting my alarm for 5.35am. Waking up at 4.35am imagining my alarm going off and actually getting up for work, realizing the error when i get out of the shower.

Why would you tip a hairdresser?
I live in the states mate. Its what you do here. Trust me it took me a long time to accept this behaviour and i don't think i've completely recovered from it.

Hairdresser
Taxi
Wait staff
Barmaids/Barmen
Food deliveries

Pretty much anyone giving YOU a service, you're required to tip. It pisses me off no end but you have no choice.

what % do you tip these people ? In the states I'd tip a waitress between 15% and 20% usually 20% . A dollar a beer or couple depending on round size . And a few dollars tops for a pizza . Cabs about 10%

And that's just it - a tip is meant to be subjective based on the service received, not just an automatic salary top-up.

Not in the states . Waitresses get about $3 per hour and have to pay tax , medical insurance separate

It's a chicken/egg thing though, the salary remains that low because they make a pretty penny in tips. They make good tips cos punters know the wages are so low.

Personally I only ever tip for dinner, and taxis, nothing else.

Yeah thats pretty standard.

A dollar a beer is the bench mark, which usually is around 20% or there abouts.

20% is the going rate for everything really. The only thing i won't pay 20% on is when i get food delivered. $4 is my going rate for that bollocks.

As someone who has been a waitress and bartender...koff!

My "paychecks" every 2 weeks working 40+ hours a week would be about $15

The federal minimum wage for tip workers is $2.13/hour.

When I was in the US, I tipped as per the norm ie everyone. In the UK service staff don't rely on tips, and thus I don't give any.

See, I get all the rest, (and I've worked as a waiter/barman and Americanas are great to have as customers just because of the tips) and I always tip them, but hairdressers... I dunno, sounds weird!

Normal there though, as you said it. Different place and all that.

Anyway, firewood. My dad told me he's getting some for him & his gf for winter, which is all good. He said it's not a lot, and I was like okay.

It was 5 tonnes. FFS.

Good exercise, I guess, basically a gym session, but FFS!

Out of curiosity...

Why did you choose to be a waitress and bartender if you knew the minimum wage was $2 ?

Tipping to me is a very simple thing :

If service is good, you tip.

If service is bad, you don't tip.

Anyone who has worked in bar or a restaurant will acknowledge this.

If you don't tip good service you are a massive minge bag !.

I always tip... just the % changes.

If you don't tip, the server can ends up paying to serve you as they have to pay tax on their food sales.

Also some folks need to understand there are many things that can go wrong that your server has no control over.
