Working right now in a library and there is a cricket that has been chirping continuously for about 45 minutes.

Out of curiosity...
Why did you choose to be a waitress and bartender if you knew the minimum wage was $2 ?
I always tip... just the % changes.
If you don't tip, the server can ends up paying to serve you as they have to pay tax on their food sales.
Also some folks need to understand there are many things that can go wrong that your server has no control over.
Would you of taken the job if it was $8 an hour and no tipping was required ?If you have a point to make just say it.
I took the job because I was broke, needed a job asap, a friend worked at a restaurant and put in a good word.
The late night hours allowed me to work a ton and still go to university full time.
same here . 15% if poor 20% if good. Only once did I refuse to tip and that was because the girl made a remark about us being being English and not very good tippers.I always tip... just the % changes.
I'm not paying my phone bill then going to order a lemo tonight nowFinding out the world ends this Wednesday.![]()

Sounds like a truly awful system then. If the tips are a major part of the server's wages, why must they end up punished for a cooker breaking or a chef burning a steak? Surely the wages should be commensurate to a standard level of service, with tips being proportional to the level of service provided above the bare minimum?
I am disappointed there was no equivalent of "chatty Cathy" here to be honest lolActual wages might change based on experience, raises for time in service, things like that, but for servers 98.639% of the wages are tips. It can be terrible if you work in a dive as it's generally accepted to pay % of what you spend on food/drink. Great it you work at high end places.
Certainly better servers tend to make more money. A big part of that is picking up quickly what the customer wants from you...chatty Cathy or very little intrusion. It's also about being able to handle a lot of tables and turn them quickly.
You can't hum whilst holding your nose. You now know what to doPeople who hum all the time. It's drives me to the point of violence.
