Mirallas at the final whistle.

I'm not so sure about the mirralas shouts. we were on top and threatening, but the whole reason we were on top is because the likes of mccarthy, cleverly, stones and jags were hounding the the united midfield and winning the ball back. If we would have subbed say cleverly for mirralas (another out and out attack minded player) i think united would have completly took over the midfield and dominated possession. I dont think we would have had half the chances due to not having much of the ball. I know we ended up losing but martinez cant see into the future, he has to play the here and now and the fact is the players he had on the pitch were doing good enough and making enough chances to score a couple more.

An interesting insight into the game there, Roberto.

Something that we haven't done all season, Closing down in numbers, Can think of the Chelsea QF game but that's about it

Would not surprise me if after those shambolic first 45 mins the players decided to change things themselves

The turning point seemed to be when stones ran through their midfield and attacked them, the whole team reacted and stepped up.

LOL...love that leap so many are making regarding the performance in the second half. Fits the popular narrative I suppose.

The real question shouldnt be why Mirallas didnt come on sooner...over this and last season:

Hes had the penalty incident
Numerous Belgian press articles
Red at season start
Another Red
Poor performances with the odd good one
Signed an extension after Wham bid £6mil for him

The real question should be why was he dropped for so long and then suddenly thrown in again like Gibson, Kone and Naismith before....thats totally bizarre.

Should have been sold last summer or in Jan or played on the left consistently.

Thats why hes valued so highly as he could do this every game but we lack a top DM to be able to cover for his runs. Yesterday we went for it even with Gibson there as there was nothing to lose.

For me I thought it was a really smart move to push Gibbo back as a CB when we were well on top and let Stones push forward. It worked very well until Gibbo got hurt (shocker) making that tough tackle near the end.
But it would have been MORE smart to take Gibson off. He was a non-factor in the first half and completely out on his feet in the second.

The calls for Mirallas to come on earlier are spot on, IMHO. I would have taken Gibson off early in the second half and brought Mirallas on. Mirallas goes to the left wing to provide more of the pace and directness that Deulofeu was applying, Cleverley goes to RB and Besic moves to CM to take Gibson's place.

Never mind, it's all done now. Hopefully Martinez will pay the price for his ineptitude today.

LOL. Yesterday we did it because Gibson was totally gassed and couldn't run, which had allowed United to completely overrun us in midfield for the first 60 minutes. This wasn't a tactical masterstroke, Martinez stumbled upon it by luck.
