I reckon I may well have made a mistake in current vocational decision. How long can anyone stay in one place before they just have to move on?

I left school at 18 and did electronics in the Royal Navy, I then worked in Queens University Belfast in electronics. At 25 I had a change of heart and career into the welfare side of things and got an Hons in Psychology. I now deal with prisoners with psychological problems and poor coping skills. It is never too late to change mate.

Not the vocation, but the actual place of business.

At the moment I need to stay there for financial reasons, but not 100% sure the chemistry is right, or maybe it's because I prefer to be my own boss. Not sure.

Depends on your past employment.

Obviously you have to be careful not to "job hop" too much but presumably, nothings stopping you searching for other careers?

Ah, got the wrong end of the stick, in my experience you will know when it is time to move on. Each persons cut off point is different but you will know in your heart when to make the jump.

Well I enjoy designing and building websites. I'm not that impressed with faffing around, or buzz wording.

I have passion for what I do, and I don't like to compromise for bottom line, because I know that long term bottom line is benefited from a reputation for good solid products.

Coca Cola is a perfect example of what I mean.

I don't want to change career, I just want to be able to organically develop and grow.

Just talking out loud really, but I'm not overly happy in my job - but then as some may say, bite the bullet and earn the coin, but never stray too far away from the path you choose. Although I reckon that was me who just mixed up that selection of cliches.

In that case I would advise to bite the bullet, do their work but keep ears and eues open to all the tricks of the trade, then when you have experience and confidence you will also hve made contacts that you could use in your chosen carreer.

Happened to a neighbour of mine. He worked in a bodywork shop for a car sales firm, got his trade, did homers at night. Now has his own business and is raking it in.

As the phrase has it, faint heart never won fair lady. Get the experience then go for it. If you have the talent then the trade will follow you

I have the experience, but I suffered massively due to the recession. Probably advisable to stick it out until this recession has subsided.

Yes, I think that would be the best thing to do, ride it out and when the market is there , go for it.

Ghost's idea sounds like it will be a pain in the hole,,,, so to speak.

How long have you been there Nick? You sounded incredibly keen before you started, what's changed?

Just doesn't feel right. I find it very difficult to be told how to design or develop a website by people who don't know how to design or develop websites.

I'm fairly knowledgeable on the subject, it just seems a little strange.

I'm allowed to maintain my freelancing, so I'm just going to give it at least 6 months, clear the decks and then maybe look at starting my own agency instead of just freelancing.
