Amazed by Dusty baker there. Weird move don't you think?
Not that I agree with it but I can see why they are doing it. They got burned by entrusting a win-now team with a rookie manager who didn't deal well with players and was over his head. Baker has the managerial experience and goodwill with players they are looking for. Of course, when Strasburg goes back into a meaningless summer outing after throwing 125+ pitches, they will probably question the decision.
On a side note, I'm not surprised at all that Black came away offended from their offer. I've had two very minor deals with the Lerners company (they have a number of shopping malls in the area) and they were, by far, the biggest a-holes to have to deal with

Not at all surprised. Mike Rizzo wanted an "experienced manager," but I think what's really happening is Rizzo doesn't know what he's doing and he's overreacting. I'm surprised that Baker was chosen over some of the other candidates, but not that he was the final selection. I don't think Baker is better than Black or Gardenhire (or any of the less experienced candidates, like Ripken), but he'll probably keep Rizzo's job safe for 2-3 more years.

Yes, that's right. Even though his position seems pretty secure, Rizzo realized he made a major mistake with the Matt Williams hire. I think that really torpedoed any chances of hiring Ripken even with all of WaPo's Tom Boswell's politicking. The Nats have a track record of offering managers' contracts well below market value in terms of the length of the contract and annual pay. Also, since one of their better seasons was with a well-seasoned Davey Johnson, I wonder if they came back to liking the idea of an older manager.

Sucks the Mets kinda blew that series but congrats to the Royals. Familia getting tagged with 3 blown saves is pretty rough, really only the Gordon homer in game 1 was his fault. The other 2 games he came in the game with 2 runners already on and the defense blew it.

Kansas City had like 800,000 fans come out today for the parade/rally. Pretty insane

Saw a stat that 80% of all Kansas City area televisions were tuned info for game. 5. 80% of all households with a TV!!! That's mind blowing to me.

Some sad baseball news over the past two days: death of Tommy Hanson, Jose Reyes arrest and Lou Brock having partial leg amputation. A real sad irony to that last one

Marlins GM taking shots at Boras

"My strong suggestion to Mr. Boras is that instead of resting on his 5 percent that he collects from his stable of players, he write a check and buy a team," Samson said. "Then he would have the opportunity to run a team that he claims to be so able to do. Until that time, he is in no position to comment how any Major League Baseball team is operated."

I'm disappointed if Boras only earns 5%, but maybe he earns that all up front.
