2020/21 Moise Kean

Erm... how?

He hasn't magically transformed into a different player - he's just changed leagues and clubs. He's playing alongside Neymar, Icardi and Mbappe in a much weaker league - he was always going to look better. The only surprise is how much better he's done.

But the idea he'd get a game ahead of Calvert-Lewin, based on what we've seen? Laughable. Josh King is a more proven option at this level - much more proven.
20 years old and doing very well. You got it wrong, end of.

Tosun over Lukaku and Josh King over Kean in the space of 24 hours. You're having a stormer here.

Bold bit - when Kean joined, I specifically said I won't be judging him for at least 12 months on goals. I didn't care about him scoring. What I wanted to see was effort, a commitment to succeed - even if he looked a bit culture shocked I'd at least be looking to see signs of what he could be.

The problem with Kean, in all his time here, is that I saw nothing of the sort. I saw more from Niasse - at least he was awkwardly effective the odd game. With Kean, you can tell he has quality, obviously (low centre of gravity, good turn of pace, hits a shot well) but to my eyes he looked the antithesis of a striker in the English game.

I agree Brands would prefer to keep him; I'm guessing Ancelotti wouldn't mind either. But I think the player wants out and has done, going by everything I've seen, since about 2-3 weeks of being in England. I'm convinced he didn't want to be here and didn't suit the style of the league.

Yeah I appreciate - and agree with - that point.

I think he probably wanted to come here only on the basis that he'd get games. And yeah, maybe didn't work hard enough or know how to work hard enough for that. Then again, have to counter that with him coming into a really crap team, playing poor football, and then when Ancelotti came in and started to at least give us shape, it was still very attritional and then, on top of all of that he finally starts to show some decent flashes in a 4-4-2, even as a sub, there's a pandemic.

Good player, wrong time and the wrong signing for us right then for what the team needed - or what was expected of him. But, we will at least make money on him.

Doing well where mate?

If he's at Everton now, this thread is on all likelihood discussing a flop who's hardly getting off the bench and doing nothing when he does. Instead, we're looking forward to around 50 million for him.

Thats the reality. It was a good loan for all involved.

Scored in every game he started for us in 2020 - admittedly only 3 like. And then he was our only sub to score all season until Bernard the other day.

He scored against Salford and Fleetwood though. Even in those games he was missing easy chances when with zero pressure he should have been flying.

As good as he may be he doesn't want to be here and that counts for more than could it work/is he better than what we have.

We need more than one CF. He could play alongside DCL, or when he's rested, injured or out of form. He could also give some competition to Richarlison. If we manage to get into Europe next season he'll have plenty of chances to play.

Yeah he missed chances, like Dom used to miss loads.

But we know Dom at least worked his arse off and I appreciate that wasn't the same with Kean.

But I also feel it's such a British-football kind of privilege to expect young lads to come straight into a very tough league and just know exactly when to work hard or when to press or when to run.

I'm torn on the whole thing and always have been. My only issue when he left was that we didn't get anyone in. That's now not the case but it does feel like we've worked very hard to get a very talented lad but just aren't quite in the right place for it to be mutually beneficial, and as much as that is half down to Kean perhaps not working hard enough, I also put it down to the club too - I'm fed up of us just being crap, bang average mid-table fodder and that's what we still are because of games like Sunday.

But, I also appreciate that for a player who did very little for us last year, we're gonna be able to make a tidy bit of money and money that can probably go and get us that quality central midfielder we need.

People love to confuse "wants to play football" with "doesn't want to be at the club." Moise would love to be here if he's playing football. What he doesn't want to do is spend weeks or months on the bench. He wouldn't want to be at PSG either if he wasn't playing. He didn't want to be at Juventus because he wasn't playing.

This applies to every single young player who leaves because we aren't using him.

Strikers miss chances. It is unreal that people don't seem to get this.
