My mother at that time was horrified at what had gone on, and I sensed even then that it affected her badly. Once I'd moved over to the East Riding the first time I brought my parents over the tops and she saw the sign for Saddleworth she was brought to tears as she looked onto the bleak landscape.….apparently the bloke who discovered the skull is an author on the subject.
i was under the impression there had been numerous excavations looking for Keith Bennett so amazing a sleuth could make this find (hoping it’s the youngster). I recall one expert saying the ground moves on the moors to such an extent that a body could literally travel miles over 50 years.
i have often thought of this case when travelling ‘over the top’ on my many trips to Leeds before I retired.
Ive done a lot of hiking over the years in National Parks and its one area ive never done for this very reason, far too bleakMy mother at that time was horrified at what had gone on, and I sensed even then that it affected her badly. Once I'd moved over to the East Riding the first time I brought my parents over the tops and she saw the sign for Saddleworth she was brought to tears as she looked onto the bleak landscape.
Yes can just remember it myself as a young lass although a few years later there were The Cannock Chase Murders and then early 70's we had The infamous "Black Panther" post office murders and the abduction of Leslie Whittleas they were both happening in and around The Black CountryGrim reminder it is.
Rarely did such events grab the attention of the nation such as these killings.
As a young boy myself, reading the Mirror and some of the details contained within the paper scared the crap out of me.
I think I read a book about the whole episode written by one of the detectives on the case and once again even a bit older by then, I couldn't believe people were so cruel and twisted as those two.
Very very sad and far too late for his mother but at least he can be given a proper grave now.
Saddleworth can be bleak, it is also absolutely beautiful but those two monsters have tainted it foreverMy mother at that time was horrified at what had gone on, and I sensed even then that it affected her badly. Once I'd moved over to the East Riding the first time I brought my parents over the tops and she saw the sign for Saddleworth she was brought to tears as she looked onto the bleak landscape.
If that is the case he should be held to account to at least establish that his book is based on established fact and reasonable presumption.Sounds like the author was after self publicity. Whole thing didn’t seem right
Yes agree, so upsetting for Keiths famikyIf that is the case he should be held to account to at least establish that his book is based on established fact and reasonable presumption.
Ye was obv hoping they might find something and give closure to the family but the author's track record was worrying. Wrote a lot of self-aggrandising bobbins with his jack the ripper book and seemed like he was after a repeat performance.Sounds like the author was after self publicity. Whole thing didn’t seem right
