I'm going to guess you're not old enough to have watched football before the Premier league started.

tbf I reckon you'd give a kidney too! lol
Ffs people have been saying "biggest game in our clubs history" before every game since February
Champions of Florida, you'll never sing thatThe florida Cup final
It was the semi final not the actual finalOk !
After reading the relegation thread.
There seems to be a difference of opinion on our biggest game.
Personally it's the Cup winners cup final
Relegation battles don't cut the mustard for me.
Records are there to be broken unfortunately.
Strange to say we never recovered when your profile pic has Rats holding the league title two years later. We were denied the chance of further European glory but domestically we got on the with job and finished 2nd, 1st and 4th in next 3 years. Colin replacing great players with lesser lights and bringing Howard back was more the reason we weren't ready to challenge Europe again when the ban was lifted.CWC final all those years ago.
When you consider what happened after our win.
Knocked us back years.
Never recovered.

I agree with this but, it needn't have sailed, that's my point- and at the same time, conquer Europe and the big Italian/Spanish clubs come for your players, so who knows what our team would have looked like by 87/88. Still, we retained most of our team from that year- 1989 cup final, for example, featured 7 of the 85 team (and 8 of the 87 team) and the only player who left, while still a first team selection, was Gary Stevens.Best team in Europe according to a certain Brian Clough.
Conquer Europe and the best players come knocking at your door.
My point was that European final was the last chance before the ban.
Once the ban was lifted, our boat had sailed.
Memories of winning stuff will never cease to exist. My uncle's a Utd fan and remembers them going down in 1974...that still didn't erase his memories of seeing Best, law and Charlton win stuff in the 1960s- and, in just 1 season, they were back in the top flight and finishing 3rd.Never forgotten.
But they are usually surrounded in our history by a side we all enjoy, all have enjoyed (or so I’m told).
No one will ever take them away, lose the memories. But win or lose a cup final will cause less impact on the club.
Relegation will absolutely destroy the club, so all those amazing memories you’ve had (and I’m very jealous I can only say “you’ve”) will potentially cease to exist.
You’re right a win saves us, and makes it comfortable, but a loss sends us to Arsenal where historically we’ve been terrible.
And we lost that one to Palace 4-1 in 1991Zenith data systems cup final.
