Though Macca was an incredibly good bass player, The Beatles just had a knack of creating a melody that lots of people could connect with, from Kids to Grandad.

Macca isn't an incredibly good as a bassist (technically). He's average. Practically he may be but that depends whether you like what your listening too.

I used to love the Jam, saw them several times but I couldn't have put it better myself. More about fashion than music.

Not many musicians in a band are that great, technically, as players. Most had no formal training, just self taught the main chords to make decent enough songs. (Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones are notable exceptions as ex session players)

The talent is in song writing. As Danny Baker once said, "If you think knocking out 40 top 20 singles is easy, you try one" in reference to Madness/Suggs getting grief.

And that is the genius of The Beatles. Well, 2 of them anyrate.

Right. Rock & Pop isn't about having incredible technical ability. If you want that look at Jazz, Opera, Classical etc. Popular music is what it says on the tin- crafting excellent 3 minute verse-chorus-verse-coda pieces that appeals to a wide audience.

I wouldn't go that far. However they were another game-changing band. If it weren't for them I doubt artists like Skrillex, Aphex Twin and Deadmau5 would have have come to be.
