But it goes beyond that, DG.

Players can appreciate what has gone into a particular piece, how it fits together, etc.. Yes, you automatically dissect songs, which is outwith appreciating them. You can dissect a song by an artist and still not be keen on it. I'm not keen on a lot of Dylan songs, but really appreciate the interpretation of them by The Byrds, or Hendrix's take on 'All along the watchtower'.

Listeners can appreciate what has gone into a particular piece. They can understand and marvel at the beauty of the song. It is this second category, not the first above, which has actually elevated the Beatles to the position they hold in the pantheon of musical artists.
Though Macca was an incredibly good bass player, The Beatles just had a knack of creating a melody that lots of people could connect with, from Kids to Grandad.

I bet you will be pleased they're releasing a new album this year.
I bought all their albums within a few weeks around the time In Your Honour is was released. I tried to like all of them but I found most of their album were 3/4 good songs and the rest very forgettable.

I‘d probably see them live as they’ve got some very good songs but I have no desire to attend a stadium gig, which is all they do now.

Agree. But I dont think you can say it.Frowned upon.I cant/couldn't stand any of them.Lennon in particular tit.
It was McCartney I disliked the most. I'm not sure even Old Blue could say he deserves to be the richest musician of all time based on his musical talent.

I’d say the likes of Limp Bizkit and Korn. Huge levels of popularity in the late-90s but utter garbage

The whole Nu-metal movement was great in the late 90’s but they stagnated very quickly. Limp Bizkit put out back to back quality albums in significant others and chocolate starfish and hot dog flavoured water. Same with Korn, we’re a great band at the time but later stuff hasn’t been that great. The whole genre suffered once it became very commercialised, especially with the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park. It started giving bands like puddle of mud, stained and papa roach mainstream success. Machine Head are still a great band from that genre and era.

Queen are overrated i'm not arsed, bohemian is great (even though its overplayed) and a night at the opera is a fantastic album but the rest of their discography is mostly average. They do have some underrated songs though that I enjoy.

The La's were destined for greatness. I went to see em. In the top 3 of worse bands I ever saw.

Never saw 'em but they had a couple of problems.

Leaving aside the obvious one, they were blessed/cursed by the fact Lee Mavers never knew when a song was finished and was constantly reworking them in loads of weird signatures and tunings. Now if you're playing in Led Zep and you've got John Paul Jones trying to follow you that's one thing... But when it's John Power then you're not going to hit the heights too often.
