Fair enough, there are some incredibly bad shouts in here. Not a huge fan of Rage but yeah, wouldn’t have them as most overrated ever.

Not a chance someone could call Armenian folk inspired metal, pop metal.
I wasnt even born when Kurt blew his head off but they were an absolute phenomenon from everything I've seen. Brought the mainstream to the alternative, one of the best punk bands of all time.

Still, I'd rather them do nothing if the standard isnt upto the rest of their discography which, for the most part, is flawless.

Is right mate. They didn't go to the mainstream...they created a new mainstream. It was an amazing time...especially as a 21/22 year old.
I mean "modern rock" stations still play Nirvana songs all the time.
Well, this thread blew up...wish I had the patience as I love the topic.
And they'll continue to be played because the songs are genuinely timeless. Theres always gonna be angsty teenagers looking for something to latch on to and the simplicity of the songs just amplify that. Even Grohl said if you listen to the songs they're just like nursery rhymes, perfect pop song writing with distorted guitars.

Its genuinely mental how they got so massive. They're such a unique (weird) band. Even my mates who are the creamfields sort of crowd know the words to BYOB and Toxicity.
I remember hearing a story about their first tour in the UK supporting Slayer and the Slayer fans were notorious for being very straight down the line metal. And then SOAD rock up John's got a gas mask on, Serj looks like an evil Rabbi and Darons painted silver. Must've blew their heads off.
