MOTD V Palace

MOTD was the highlight of my week until about 15-20 years ago when it became a bore-fest of over analysis and less action. Add to that the clear biases for the running orders.

Thanks to youtube I don't bother with it anymore. You get longer highlights and zero chat a day or so after the match. You're allowed to watch and make up your own mind without some spoiled ex-pro trying to tell you when it's OK to cheat.

Someone needs to inform the “expert” pundit and anodyne flannel spouting Jermaine Jenas, that football is a contact sport so just because there is contact doesn’t mean a player has to swan dive afterwards when that particular contact was minimal at best. He also needs to know that the Everton squad doesn’t currently contain any player by the surname of Braithwaite.
Everton are an afterthought at best, except to Evertonians. Balls to them
it wasn't even his standing leg where he made 'contact!!' it bullocks, no way on earth that was a pen... tapping one foot doesn't mean his standing leg goes flailing in the air... anyone who's played football knows that!! Janes is an absolute pellet, i've no idea why he is even a pundit... he's bloody hopeless, so is Ashley.. boring monotonous review of the games... CONTACT SPORT pople ffs.

Feel like they showed so little of our game and so much more of the Newcastle one.

Yeah, the Saudi's are definitely buttering the media up. Newcastle/Arsenal last week, the commentator proclaimed them as "these two historic clubs."

Yeah, Newcastle have some history, but not much, they're certainly nowhere near as historic as Arsenal, but the way it was said implied that they were every bit equals.

Wasn't MOTD but a pet peeve on mine is commentators mistaking a black player for another and just...carrying on like they didn't make that mistake.

The guy on Optus mistook Doucoure for Young when he got booked, he somehow also forgot about that booking later when saying that a Palace player was the first booking of the game. They already have nothing interesting to say the least they could do is be accurate.
yes I noticed that too, crass in the least.

I like what I know about Gary Lineker, liked him as a player, now as a host and his forays into the political world. I completely disagree with him on the penalties in yesterday’s game. If a defender touches a forward it isn’t a penalty, if that were the case then every time a defender bumped into a forward at a set piece it would be a spot kick. I player is never entitled to go down, he has to be knocked down. A penalty is awarded when the forward is prevented from playing by foul play not when he is touched. Houghton gives a spirited defence of Eze but I think, having watched him go down, he has practised going over.
Gary and JJ were forwards, they look at things from a forwards viewpoint, defenders have a completely opposite view.
Simulation could be taken out of the game very quickly, review all penalties during the week and if a player is found to have dived then give him a two match ban. Players diving are ruining football, it puts referees under so much pressure, it distorts how defenders play and it takes the tackle out of the game.

Its easy if the review shows no contact, the problems start if their is some contact and it becomes a judgement call whether it was enough to be treated as a foul. Very difficult and probably opens up yet another can of worms (and no doubt further accusations of bias etc).

Instead of looking at the contact, they need to be looking at the players already falling to the ground before the contact is even made.

Did Branthwaite touch Eze for the first pen? Yes.

Was Eze in a falling motion before any contact? Yes.

They're so fixated with looking for the contact that they just completely ignore the player is already in simulation mode.

Boils my piss.

Of course it is a judgment call, but that judgment shouldn’t be purely based on whether a player was touched but was the touch enough to impede him. Again I say look at the jostling that goes on when a free kick is going into the box, if “a touch” is the material consideration in whether a penalty is given then very ball into the box will be a penalty. You can’t have a law in a contact sport that allows absolutely no contact.

From what was a decent game; can't help but feel the review was absolutely shocking even from the usual standards

Eze penalty shout should never have happened and also missed out a few second yellows after his dive.

But even Linekar made out he was hard down by despite being the neutral host.

Thought highlights were fair enough, no great outcry over the penalty, they agreed that thought Jarred clipped him, and imo he left a silly leg out same as for the 1st one.
Thought the pundits spoke favourably of us tbh

Eze dived or exaggerated any contact in the box a few times, got booked for it once, he clipped garners heels and also dragged Onana down.

did you watch the full game?
