The Missus and I are toying with the idea of leaving the dark dismal city of Birmingham and moving up to Cumbria.
Are there any posters on here, that live that way and have a bit of inside knowledge.
Looking at the Whitehaven, Workington areas , but fairly flexible.
Obviously finding work will be an issue , so will need to get that in place before anything else.
So yeah , any info or advice would be gratefully received.
(Expects various sarcastic replies)
Two of my mates moved over to the West Coast of Cumbria about twenty years ago mate and we visit them at least once a year, so I`ve got a great knowledge of that area.
Where they live is away from all the tourist traps and is beautiful. However the nearest shop is 2.5 miles away !
They live in a village called Gleaston and anywhere around there is lovely.
It`s much more reasonably priced to live there, than say Bowness etc, due there being very little, other than cycling in the way of tourism over on that side of the coast. The people are sound and there`s loads of blues up there too, but more are into rugby union.
The nearest big town to them is Ulverston ( nice place ), then it steadily goes downhill, Dalton and Barrow being the two next big places, both are toilets and make Birkenhead look upmarket ( seriously )
As beautiful as it is, there`s no way I`d live there.
There`s very little work around there, hence why all the kids leave and don`t come back,
It rains more than anywhere else in the country, especially in the Winter.
It`s totally dead in the Winter.
You have to drive everywhere.
There`s some real proper poverty around there, with associated problems like drink and drugs, mental health etc ( down to lack of work/ boredom)
Unless your bang into an outdoor pursuit - walking, cycling, running etc, you`d go mad in the Winter.
