Could this quote by DM suggest the board initially werent prepared to fully back him?

"The board have been terrific, but we are seeing now if we want Everton to compete, they are going to have to give us some form of tools.

Or am I reading way too much into that?

Hey, maybe we can go in for Stevie G....

Oh hey, hang on...

He said to give us some "form of tools" and not just an outright tool.

Sorry.

No you are right on. I think early this summer the board made him toe the line and make his quote about other clubs' irresponsible overspending, but as the inflation become the obvious norm he had a "come to jesus" meeting with them and the cash for the right players (especially Manny) at the right time appeared.

Honestly, I'm very happy how Moyes played out this summer, Yak or no Yak.

We're certainly splashing the cash out here. With the start to the season we've had and the proposed new signings I would think we have to be in with a shout for that 4th spot. I just hope we're not over extending ourselves a bit financially.

What's our financial equation in terms of buying and selling players over the past 2 seasons. One thing that I cannot figure out until now, where did the money come from?

In:
Baines 5.5million
Jag 4 million
Fernandes 8 million
Yak 11 million
total - 28.5 million

Out:
Naysmith 1 million
BT 4 million
total - 5 million

That's a difference of 23 million! Where the [Poor language removed] did the money come from? Not complaining just find it shocking!

As far as I know the tv money did not come in one straight payment. It's staggered across the season. We must be having some kind of windfall to be able to splash out 25 million out of nothing.
If it's really tv money we would have seen every team in the league splashing 25 millions like we do. I certainly didn't see that happening at all!

I think it is the tv money being, in effect, advanced via a bank loan underwritten by Robert Earl (y)

Cash advance for Rocky XXXXXIV - from Sly to Earle to us.

Conditional on us supplying the villain for the movie (are you listening, VDM?).
