People who are saying Laudrup need to give their head a wobble.
If you read this thread (which I don't think many do judging from how often people repeat things or say things that completely contradict the general mood of the thread) very few people had mentioned Laudrup in days (until a few recent posts). It's been 95%+ Martinez and Pereira for the past few days (in terms of talk about who people want and not counting a lot of posts about the threat of internal appointments and how much that terrifies people).

Why do people always want longevity? Moyes was here 11 years and we didn’t win a thing. Just because Ferguson was at United for so long and won so many trophies doesn’t mean that strategy will work for everyone. Look at Chelsea, they chop and change their managers constantly and they’ve won every trophy there is to win in that time. Arsene Wenger has been at Arsenal for about 17 years and they haven’t won a thing for the last 7. Relationships don’t always get better with time. While some may get more used to certain things, others may start to get frustrated with the same voice/same message. Sometimes change is good. Managers and their chums in the media keep telling us that stability is the right way, because it ensures they stay in jobs.
Longevity tends to translate more strongly with league success (at least relative to budgets). Wenger has kept them in the CL (during a time when they needed that revenue to maintain their huge wage bill and stadium costs). Chelsea won a few Cups but they've been relatively poor in the league (when you consider the cost of their team) over the last couple of years.

That said the theory that managers and chums have some grand conspiracy about promoting longevity ... well if they do they've been colossal failures. Last time I looked it up the average tenure for a manager was incredibly low:

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/21052010/58/premier-league-managers-1-4-years-jobs.html

People may SAY they want longevity but judging people by their actions, not what they say, chairmen tend to panic and get a new manager in most of the time. That strategy seems to be largely failing for the majority of those teams.

If Everton were to get Laudrup, and he won us a trophy, maintained or improved upon the league positions and then decided to jump ship in 2 years to go to Real Madrid, would you think it had been a waste of time appointing him in the first place?
Of course not. You have framed that question in a way in which nobody could possibly disagree but that doesn't really prove anything. New managers (at least of any note -- internal appointments are possibly a bit different) want to get a squad more suited to their style. That means money needs to be spent. We typically don't do spending money. Even if you break even on transfers in the very broad "bought for 10m sold for 10m" way there are fees and costs to all those transfers. Stability is cheaper and we are cheap.

Aside from arguably Swansea there aren't many Prem teams (without mega-budgets) who have "succeeded" (in the sense of good league finishes relative to their expectations) while changing managers frequently. Chelsea can spend to compensate for a lack of stability ... we cannot.

That said, aside from Pereira who is the clear first choice I'd certainly take Laudrup next primarily because he's a far better option than any of the remaining.

He's still my first choice, I can't believe he's not in any of the bookies lists. Out of the three managers I wouldn't mind seeing at the club, only Pereira seems to be getting talked about. Bielsa being the third.

One thing to note though, Porto's turnover is roughly the same as EFC's. I don't know if they get bankrolled though, but next season with the new TV money we'd have a higher turnover than Porto. So it might not be unlikely that Pereira doesn't see us as being that cashstrapped.

Exactly, we've seen this all before. It's a bit low of Martinez, he's relegated the club and instead of being grateful that he wasn't axed mid contract, he's willing to leave them in the lurch instead of attempting to put things right. He's holding out to see if there's a better offer on the table, and was clearly expecting one to be before todays deadline.

I think he's being quite disrespectful to his club and Chairman, who've stood by him. Having said that, I'm openly biased as I don't want him here. I think he'd relegate us, or drive us close to it, and then have a million and one excuses as to why it happened and then bugger off.

Don't do it, I've been doing it all week, you'll just get a splitting headache

I put a small bet on Girard at Betfair. Think it was 1000/1 minus commission whatever that is.

I def don't want Martinez either.

Whelan on SSN just now.'Roberto has asked for some assurances and I've suggested we meet again on Monday giving me the weekend to se what I can do for him. Meanwhile...Martinez has flown to BARCELONA to 'see his parents'.........
not that far from Malaga ?

jUST DOWN THE ROAD MATE...

only about 800km's

The more time passes, the less I want Martinez.
It's not as if he is universally regarded as a wonderful manager, many peope think he is totally overrated, but is a good publicist, ably assisted by Dave Whelan.
Martinez should be prepared to crawl over broken glass to get the Everton job, none of this 24 hours to consider ****e and looking for more time.
If the job is offered its taken,if not the offer is withdrawn and we move on.
When David Moyes was asked if he had doubts about leaving Everton for Utd,he said that he hadn't and he knew he had to take the job.
Everton is still a massive club and managers like Martinez should jump at the chance or you would have to question their ambition.

Regarding internal appointments...I am not totally against it, if an older, wiser head is appointed with them for a year or two.
Stubbs/Weir/Neville may be great managers in the future but they lack experience of any management never mind the management of a top six club.If they were given the assistance of an older man to help them through the first couple of years then that might be interesting.
Even if Pereria is appointed I would hope that somebody like Stubbs or Neville would come in as assistants.
We are not trying to destroy the legacy of David Moyes, but hopefully build on it.

It's Pereira for me. The club has done it's interviews, internally and externally and is making it's mind up. This is purely conjecture and has no bearing or requires no ITK foresight. But...

The reason this 2 year (in principle) agreement has been bandied about is cos the White horse rider went to see BK in London Town...

Bill: "So Vitor sell me yourself. What makes you think you are the man for the Everton Job? Bearing in mind of course that we are skint."
VP: "I will get the Blues in to the Champions League within 2 years. Budget or no budget..."
Bill: "**** me! 2 years, you're on mate!"
And of course after said events in BK's London home, Bill goes off and drags his heels. While VP gets offered a 3 year deal at Porto

Porto website saying some announcement tonight around 9pm?

If they say he is leaving then I do not think Everton will be too far behind in saying he is joining us.

Is there a way of telling how many of those views are unique ? Wonder how many people have actually looked at the thread.

Surely the # of votes is a decent way of telling how many member's have looked at the thread. Assuming most if not all members who have viewed this thread have voted.

Urgh, that sounds much more like he is staying than anything else

Well I think it's safe to say that Martinez is NOT our No.1 target. If he was we would have offered the job and he would have accepted. You DONT turn down Everton to stay at Wigan in the championship...you just don't!

I didn't think BK would, but it looks like vitor is our No.1 choice who he is clearly waiting for some sort of answer off him. Maybe Martinez is the fall back option.

Question tho.... Why are a large amount of posters who wanted vitor now complaining about BK because we ain't tied up/offered Martinez the job?? Haha
Your probably getting what u wanted the Porto tactician!?!? You should be pleased with how it's starting to pan out.
