(Let me preface this by saying I don't want an internal appointment, as could probably be grasped from my previous post)

That bit didn't bother me that much. Nothing at Everton is really *broken* (at least on the playing side), but some things aren't "optimised" for want of a better word. Just because nothing is completely screwed or broken, doesn't mean you just accept the status quo though, and keep things just ticking over.

Yeah that article says we should be happy with just ticking over tho, that why that line pissed me off.

I read that line a bit differently, as saying that wholesale changes/completely starting over isn't required at Everton isn't required, because nothing is catastrophically wrong... which I agree with... I just don't agree that that's a reason (or certainly not a good enough one) to appoint internally.

This bit piss me off "What everyone shouldn’t forget, though, is that Everton aren’t broke. And if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t need fixing"

We are a bit broke in several ways though, and the person who has papered over those cracks for the past 11 years is no longer here. Every replacement is a gamble, but choosing an untried person as Moyes replacement is a massive gamble. Ripping apart the back room staff would wreck the stability that has been a factor in our improvement compared to ten years ago and I'd be happy to see Neville as assistant in some capacity but as the manager? Not for me. Will Bill do it? He might. An internal appointment knows the situation at the club and is far less likely to pressurise the board for the funds to take us to the next level. Would fans honestly expect someone like Neville to be able to push us forwards? I can imagine lots of soundbites about maintaining stability, rebuilding, transition and learning his trade, in other words reducing our expectations.

Since the inception of the Premier League, our board have constantly failed to take opportunities to move the club forward. Why will it be any different this time?

and some more dubious internal promotions

Dalglish (see post LFC I, when not either inheriting a to side or given a shedload to buy the best) Newcastle, Celtic, LFC II etc.
