How is appointing a manager who has just gotten his team relegated, and performed more poorly than his predecessors "less risky"?!

Couldn't put it better myself!

Martinez had an okay run at Swansea after a nothing playing career.

He's media friendly and he fits the bill of a sexy modern footy manager.

He's got Wigan relegated after a number of seasons of dicking about on the last day or so to beat it. Yes they don't pay big wages and looked brilliant in spells in the odd match (Arsenal away season before last springs to mind) but they equally got absolutely tanked on numerous occasions. In summary it's a "nothing special" record in the league at Wigan.

But he won the FA Cup. That's it.

3 minutes and 22 seconds of bloody madness on a March day at Goodison park and he gets the job.

...this is a fair point, but it was surely a matter of time before Wigan dropped and an achievement itself to keep them up for so long. A foreign based Manager in itself is a risk but one with a dodgy track record is even more so. I have my doubts that Martinez will make himself available, but if he does he would be my preference.
Was it?? Didn't Jewell and Bruce have them pretty much midtable?

It's only since Martinez came in that the last day escapes have started. But he won 6 games in the FA Cup, so MARTINEZ IN!!

And as for Periera's pre-Porto record, its actually quite good, if you bothered to look into it.

..not so sure. Sacked when managing SC Espinho in the 3rd tier of Portugese football. He couldn't get CD Santa Clara promoted from the 2nd tier and packed a Managers job in to become assistant to AVB. It's all about opinion and I am a bit suspicious of this guy's background.

Phil Neville gave them the win.

He survived in his first season with goal differences. That was bad and damn lucky.

The longer this has gone on the more I'm totally against Martinez. IMO he would be a massive mistake. And I seriously don't trust him to spend a penny of our valuable pennies.

I'm not keen on vitor, just because I think he's quite a risk too but he has showed at Porto what he's capable of. He has the possibility of turning out great, where as I don't think Martinez has any chance of at best turning out average.

Martinez will be confirmed for what he is the moment he leaves Wigan and fails (again) at his next club. Most probably stoke!

I'd rather judge someone on their current league success than dwell on the past.

'viva la warnock'

If he was called Vinny Perry, and had took his team to winning the league twice, and only losing twice in two years. I'd be absolutely fine with him being called whatever. And i'd still love for him to manage Everton.

How about Neille Lennoneira who has a similar record with Celtic
