It seems that Periera has took the blame massively for decisions that Pinto Di Costa has made. PdC is a Demi god over there, and regardless of what he does, he'll always be that. VP has took the flack for the sale of a number of their big name players, for hiuge fees, yet never moaned, got on with the job, won the league and only lost one game while he went about it.
