It was generally stated last night by the likes of McNuty and O'Keeffe that it'd be within 48 hours. The more mundane reason for the 'hold up' is that Everton are determined to wrestle the announcement away from being Whelan's declaration and are giving it a day or so to get past his 'premature' statement.

Either way, we're not getting the fantasy candidates bandied about, so unless you want some Finch Farm cone-layer as boss you better start praying Martinez is declared tomorrow.

Whelan could've come out straight away and denied any knowledge of who Everton were appointing.

I read what he was reported to have said, and it was that a compensation figure had been agreed. That's all.

It's got to be announced on Wednesday, hasn't it? I'm only guessing but I'd hope that today they've been sorting out the finer points of the compensation and contracts for the new backroom staff (and possibly also the ones who want to leave to follow Moyes), and then in the morning there will be a statement confirming Martinez as the new manager and a media conference sometime in the early afternoon.

I have feeling its not gonna be Martinez....like why would they come out so quickly to rebuff Whelan if it was. It makes sense that they would want to know how much Wigan wanted before they made a decision, hence the comp talks. Everton have a habit of springing surprises
