Moyes to Sunderland

I don't rejoice in the fact he's on the ropes, In fact when you look at it, it's quite sad to see how far his stock has fallen since he left us.

With the greatest of respect to Sunderland fans they are all but down and I really can't see him turning things round next year either, you leave Everton at your peril.

Unfortunately with the way of the world now, and the fact he's not exactly safe from a purely job performance perspective, i don't think he'll last the week. It's getting beyond the sports pages now and that's going to lead to him getting hounded out of his job

I haven't heard the conversation he had but - from what I read - I did get the distinct impression it was just a throwaway line. No matter how reprehensible that kind of comment can be if the context and the level of intent showed no malice - just a man under extreme pressure being a little frivolous at yet another "how does it feel to be threatened with maybe losing your job" question - then of course he will react - maybe with anger, maybe with good humour and maybe with (here) bad humour. I don't condone his words but seriously - was there really any intent to threaten her or insult her as a woman?

Yeah i don't really think the fact she is a woman was that important.

He is "threatening" a reporter regardless. It's proper losing the plot stuff.

What a load of nonsense this whole issue is. Sums up everything wrong with modern society, the world faces massive problems that will effect the entire planet but some stupid idiots are genuinely upset because Moyes made a feeble joke/banter comment at some journalist! The woman laughed it off ffs, who the hell is seriously offended by this garbage? If it was Moyes I'd walk away and say: 'I've made more money then 99% of you will make in ten lifetimes, I don't need to listen to your obnoxious bs, see ya'.

He wasn't threatening anyone though. He was talking like a normal person and made a feeble joke because the journalist did her job very well and gave Moyes a hard time. Maybe he should be made to take a course and helped to learn how to speak and think 'correct way'. Absolute nonsense this entire story.

He is joking around.
On air, Moyes replied: “No, none at all.” Then, when the interview was concluded but, unknown to Moyes, a camera was still recording, he said to Sparks: “You were just getting a wee bit naughty at the end there, so just watch yourself. You still might get a slap, even though you’re a woman. Careful the next time you come in.”

Moyes’ tone was jokey and Sparks was heard laughing along with him, but there was immediate widespread condemnation of the episode, including by the BBC’s Match of the Day presenter and former England striker Gary Lineker, who tweeted: “Moyes incident highlights a tendency for some managers to treat interviewers with utter disdain. Pressured job. Well rewarded. Inexcusable.”

Issue literally scandalised by Gary Lineker, and it's now blown way out of proportion imo.

I know he wasn't, hence why I put the word threatened in quotation marks.

This happens with businesses in the public eye. I don't think Sam Allardyce did much wrong either but both of them have been in the game long enough and should know better than to say stuff that will get them in trouble rightly or wrongly.

I understand were your coming from mate but I'm afraid I disagree. Moyes shouldn't have watch want he says regardless of if he's in the public eye or not. This issue highlights another example of freedom of speech being quashed because an elite clique of idiots are offended on all our behalf. People should be free to say whatever they want (we can all work out what is appropriate and inappropriate without an elite clique telling us). Moyes said absolutely nothing wrong, he talked like a normal person rather then a politically correct robot. It's an indictment of modern society that this issue is even new worthy.

Freedom of speech is used far too often to defend stuff though. (I am not saying in this instance). The concept of Freedom of Speech is not there to be able to say anything you want no matter how nasty, its there so that people can speak their mind without fear or reprisal (In reality it also does not exist).

I agree Moyes did not say anything "wrong". He did however say something stupid and should have thought about it before saying it.

A lot will depend on his employers guidelines regarding proper conduct more than anything.

Freedom of speech is sacred as far as I'm concerned. Everyone should have the right to say what they think regardless of how distasteful you or I might find it. The only exceptions, is incitement of violence and preaching hate (and we need much better guidelines to define what hate preaching actually is). Yes we need guidelines in the work place but commonsense should always take priority when such workplace breaches happen.

Then its not Freedom of Speech is it?

Like a lot of things it is a great ideal that does not fully work in practice. Mainly because humans are stupid.

I wouldn't stop people saying what they thought, they'd be perfectly entitled to say their vile views. It's the only way we find out about the animals we have it out mists if they can say what they want. Ill rephrase myself, such views are the only ones that make me uncomfortable.
