Oh Dave, I expected better from you mate, this is a massive let down. I wanted more doublethink nonsense and over hype for Martinez. I'm disappointed. One excellent season of football and bossing other teams off the park was worth 11 seasons of drudgery under Moyes. It gave us our appetite back to be the best again. Ironically in that respect Martinez was the architect of his own demise. Raised expectations buried him under a mountain of expectation.
Moyes will end up back at PNE - I've though that for some time. His career trajectory since he left us has shown him to be exactly what he is: a lower league manager. And, btw, he'd have a scrap on his hands securing the PNE job.
One season of 'bossing teams off the park'? Did you miss the part where we finished fifth? Or the 4-0 humping at castle grayskull? Or the 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace? Or the collapse in both cup competitions? It was a good season, I've never denied it but it was far from perfect and had been well over hyped by people like yourself with an agenda.
Eleven seasons of drudgery?! Get a grip mate. It wasn't anything like that at all. I've been going to Goodison week in and week out for years now and Moyes time here was far from drudgery or whatever silly description you want to give it.
In Moyes first full season we finished 7th which was our second highest finish of the Premier League era at the time. His second season was a disaster no doubt about it but what came after that Dave? Oh that's right we finished 4th! Which is a much more tangible achievement then finishing fifth with seventy two points. During Moyes time we only had two seasons outside the top half of the Premiership and one of them had a remarkable second half of the season turnaround. We played some decent stuff during the Moyes era and only people with short memories or agendas chose not to see that.
Martinez was indeed the architect of his own demise but it was his own ego and stupidity that cost him in the end. That and his lack of any actual talent.
Moyes will do fine imo. If he's left to actually build something at Sunderland he will make them a good top half side and make them hard to beat. He certainly won't end up at the likes of Preston again but if he did they'd gain a very good manager for their level. Because Moyes has abilities for everyone to see, he's a very frustrating and often negative manager but he knows his business and if he's left alone he'll work wonders for Sunderland.
