I hope he breaks into the team, alongside Robles and Garbut.
The team we would have has promising written all over it.

There is a but though, patience will be needed as they will make mistakes
Sadly patience is in short supply, but is the right thing to do
 
Question. Where do people see his position being? Barry/Gibson sitting role, setting the tempo, breaking up play, spraying passes around? That seems to be the only place a gap would open up in the team for him, but his skillset currently seems to be more in the mccarthy mould - hooning around all over the pitch tackling everything that moves.

I don't even think Roberto knows the answer to that yet!

A conveniently timed answer from Besic haha:

“I have had to work on my positioning and early on in the season I pressed too high or got out of my position and he wants to me to be the holding midfielder and learn the position.”

So he is Barry's replacement. I guess this summer will be a big preseason for him and we'll start to see him rotated in more next season.
 

Echo quotes him saying that Roberto wants him as a nr 6 - Barry's holding role

But isn’t that just a sign of Besic’s natural enthusiasm? “Yes,” he replied. “But it is not right. “As a central midfielder, when you think you are free to go out, this is a mistake. The manager has tried to teach me this each week. “I knew it was going to take time.”

Asked why he felt the supporters had taken to him, Besic said: “I don’t know, maybe because they like players who fight and give 100% on the pitch and I am a player like this.”

Is right lad ;)
 
That explains a lot, definitely Barrys replacement. McCarthy /Besic /Barkley in the centre with Ledson coming through.

True, look at the lack of patience people have now with Ross & Rom.

Imagine how inconsistant we would be with Ross, Rom, Stones Garbutt & Besic all starting together!!!!

True, and why so its easy to con the fan. Not saying he is, but run around like a mad man and do the odd solid tackle....and they will love you.

Robles has done well when called upon but we need a new number 1.
 

I think we will see a gradual shift from Barry being the main central defender to Besic filling that role, if he learns the discipline needed.It will be closer to the end of next season before that is truly noticeable.
 
Defensive midfielders usually peak close to their 30's so he has time. Personally i think he has all the attributes necessary to be top notch.

Good to hear he's a lot happier than he usually looks.

I'd like to see him start more often than not next season, with Barry being wheeled out for the games where we'll be looking to do a snide job on a better team - similar to how Chelsea used Makelele towards the end.
