Everton target Muhamed Besic is poised to sign for the club over the coming days, after respected journalist Tony Barret from the Liverpool Echo said the deal was “almost done”.

Besic impressed at the World Cup for Bosnia-Herzegovina and was one of the countries main men during the tournament in South America. Besic’s side exited at the group stages of the tournament, but his performances caught the eye of many potential suitors including Roberto Martinez.

After signing Gareth Barry earlier this week, Martinez is set to make Besic his second signing in just a few days with a deal in the region of £4 million agreed and set to be completed.

The 21-year-old plays for Hungarian side Ferencvaros, who he has been with for a number of years following his departure from Hamburg as a kid.

The midfielder is extremely tricky and has good pace, something that was seen in abundance in the Everton team last season. It seems only a matter of time until the deal is done, after Tony Barret replied to an eager fan on Twitter.

If he can really hit the same level as McCarthy last season then we will have some centre midfield to look forward to.

Is he actually any good or are people just excited as it's a new signing? He never stood out in the WC for me and hasn't done anything to suggest he's gonna be anything more than a squad player, certainly nothing to justify 52 pages of excitement!

Could it be that the lad is on holiday after the world cup and not going to sign till he returns which is hopefully tomorrow?
