Naismith as a striker

I wonder if we will see Lukaku on the left against Man Utd. They have a couple of big grocks at centre half, so the movement of Naismith could expoit that, with Lukaku up against Da Silva.
A big strong forward like Lukaku is bread and buter to Vidic, give them something different to think about

We could use most of our attacking players in different positions and roles.
In our usual style Lukakus best position is as a striker and Naismith just behind, or as an option in the striker position himself. Personally I think Naismith as Barkley aren't very strong on the wing.

RM explained the tactics after the match acknowledging that Arsenal tend to keep possession, allowing them 'empty possession' we defended deep, pressed and countered (almost opposite from our preferred style.) He also explained the use of Lukaku on the right side as exploiting a weakness in our opponent whilst allowing him to approach the goal and shoot with his stronger left foot (as when he scored.)

Our games against Arsenal this season has been telling a story of how the team has evolved this season.
The away game in the league came after the impressive win at old Trafford, we out possessed Arsenal for the majority of the match and fully deserved the draw.

The fa cup match we again had possession but we also had a high line and Arsenal countered in two goals when were trailing and attempting to find a goal.
Since that we have become more pragmatic, to the point of dropping the principle of patiently playing through from the back and keeping possession if it's tactically sound.

Lukaku deployed wide worked because their full back has looked this season like he suffers with some form of Neuromuscular disease. Martinez is a proactive manager and called it in the week and got both of them working on it. Although I'm a big fan of Naismith and his little blonde head, I don't think he's the answer for a continuous central striker going forward.

He is mega, though.

I like that Martinez appears to be giving the players much more freedom and responsibility. You sensed with Moyes that everything had to be according to his plan, which left us unable to change things very easily.

Much better to develop smart, thinking players who can adapt to what's happening in front of them.

Martinez it seemks is making players think they can do anyhting he wants them to, as long as he tells them they can.

Complete opposide to track back and defend the previous regime had.

What we need to make sure is next season we still have these options to go with and if roberto will throw a curveball once then he is bound to do it again.

Nonsense Moyes was slated for playing players out of their natural position, Martinez would get away with it at first due to all the good will but it wouldn't be long before people tired of it.

Sweeper keeper? Or false sweeper really

nah he doesnt come out of his box enough, someone like lloris could be described as a false sweeper..

james mccarthy is a false holding midfielder as he does tend to get forward

stones is currently our false midfielder due to the runs he is making into central midfield

The lukaku out wide thing worked because it wasn't expected. Doing the same thing every game is proper Moyes tactics. You have to adapt up your tactics judging on the team you are playing NEXT.

Aye, but when you are playing a right back in midfield, a holding midfielder on the wing, defensive midfielder behind the striker etc then that is not the same as swapping your forward three about so they can attack a different player.

People would get tired of it if it didn't work.

Naismith on the wing? Terrible idea - because he's no good at it, persisting in the attempt is why Moyes got slated.

Lukaku on the wing? Brilliance - because it worked. Still probably shouldn't persist in the idea, but doing it again would be nowhere near the monumental ridiculousness of sending Naismith on the right side again.

But you're correct, if he kept up with a clearly poor tactic, people would get annoyed. Precisely the same way they did with Moyes. I think Roberto is a bit too clever tactically for this to be a common problem for us though.

Actually think Naismith will go to the bench for the next game and he will bring in barkley and delefeou for him and osman

Hes all about shaking the team up so the opponent aint got a scooby doo like
