Naismith? Thoughts?

I like him, not the greatest player, but gives his all
I've been saying this forever.

Shame his all isn't all that, but still - he tries and that's admirable. I'd rather have that than someone like Saha near the end of his time with us - someone steals the ball off him and he just walks back, not even trying to do anything...

Anyone else starting to like Naisy? Hes becoming quite an important squad player for us in my opinion and always puts in a shift and think the bad publicity he gets sometimes is unfair because he is a decent player. Hes no game changer but you know what you will get from him and thats important

Agree wholeheartedly -- people around here are way too focused on what he isn't than what he is. He drops back, scores goals from time to time (no 20 yard screamers into the upper 90, but goals nevertheless), holds onto the ball decently, and can make a good turn every once in awhile. Do I want to see him starting every game? No. But do I feel safer when he comes on if we're holding onto a lead and looking a bit tired? Absolutely.

was thinking today would much rather have Naismith on the wing than Osman. I've liked him from day one, he scores against the big teams, works his arse off and seems a humble bloke. Hes actually one of our better players from the bench these days.

For me his poor passing and often bad first touch is down to confidence and panicking.

You know what, I hated Naismith, long before he scored that goal in the derby, and i told people of how much i hated him, and people threatened to knock me out at the match  (True Story), but this season he's been a real handful. I feel he didn't really adjust properly to the Premier League, and whilst he's still not a great player, he could easily do a job for a lesser team than Everton who are in the premier league.
Saying that though, every team needs a scrapper, a player who can run his legs off and give his all, and i feel Naismith has done this well this season, he hasn't been great every game, but i felt he was excellent against Chelsea and City in particular. He's showing a lot more confidence playing under Martinez i feel, i find he's cutting in to find the ball more, and that's his natural position is it not? I can hold my hands up and say, yeah i didn't like him, but he's turning that around, well in lad.

I don't mind Naismith, him over Osman anyday!

Couldn't believe people by me was moaning when he came on for Barkley, was completely the right decision. I'd actually leave Barkley out at Villa and play Naismith there. Won't do Barkley no harm to watch a game from the bench as the first few weeks of the season have caught up with him.

Was definitely the right change yesterday bringing off a tired Ross and putting Naismith just behind Kone.

Man has a knack of being in the right place at the right time and makes all the right movements.

I'm very happy he's in our squad.

While people love to blame Osman for us not playing well, I think yesterday a large portion of why we didn't play well was down to Barkley. The position he plays is crucial to us holding the ball up the pitch and getting our striker into the game. I thought Barkley had his worst game for a while, lost a lot of the ball and (once again) made some poor decisions. He had a habit yesterday of receiving the ball too square and consequently taking too long to turn when in good positions. I think it is no coincidence that Lukaku didn't have his best game aswell.

In short Barkley (a very good player) is showing his age.

This is kind of like a MikelsGoat post about Naismith.

No one actually knows what he's saying about Naismith.

fixed it for you

Exactly, he keeps going no matter what and I really like that in a player. Not everyone has amazing skills/pace etc...but if they give us 100% I will support them. Like Denis Stracqualursi

he needs to improve his passing if hes going to be brought on to close games down, his defensive work is good though, and agree he'd be better on the left than Osman. Wouldnt drop Barkley for him though, that is utter madness, could Naismith play the ball that Barkley played to Mirralas for the 2nd goal
